Our large live decorated tabletop Christmas tree and home tour
Ever since I found my favorite large brass pot at Goodwill a couple of years ago, I have wanted to see a live tabletop Christmas tree in it. The brass pot is placed in the corner of our living room on the side table and usually has a parlor palm in it. This year I got my wish and the palm is spending Christmas in our bedroom so the brass pot can display a glorious Fraser fir.
Also, today’s Christmas home tour is all part of Marty’s Christmas blog hop. So welcome to everyone who’s coming from her blog at A Stroll Thru Life and my friend Cristina at Remodelando La Casa. Their tours are always fabulous. If you are craving some Christmas red, then Cristina is the girl for you. I’m in love with all the touches of color.
Well, let’s get to it because I’m excited to show you guys how I decorated my live tabletop Christmas tree and the rest of our downstairs.

A lot of things have changed in our home since last year’s Christmas home tour even though the changes are somewhat subtle. We have new vinyl plank flooring, the bottom kitchen cabinets are green, the dining room has new furniture and lastly, I decided to add new neutral velvet curtains to our living room. All those changes make me love our little home even more.
In the previous years, I have always had a small faux tree in the corner of our living room. You can scroll to the bottom of this post to see all my previous Christmas tours.
This year I’m so happy to have this large and real beauty. I love sitting on my couch under this tree to watch TV this holiday season.
FYI, in case you are wondering how you can keep your live tabletop tree alive for longer then you should check out this Christmas tree recipe. I’ve heard great things about it.
I have also wanted to decorate a tree with some natural and untraditional decor pieces. When I went to our local AtHome store, I found bags of white paper sphere vase fillers for $7 and thought that two bags of them might make the perfect tree decor. During one of my trips to HomeGoods, I found a set of starfish which I thought would look perfect with the vase fillers.
Additionally, I ordered some fairy lights which I wanted to add to a tree with regular Christmas lights but when I added them to this tree, I knew that I didn’t want the standard Christmas lights anymore. I just love the thin strands and how I can wrap them around the branches. 100 feet of fairy lights was perfect for this size of live tabletop Christmas tree.
For those of you wondering, I dried my oranges slices in our food dehydrator (HERE) which works perfect for so many different uses,
Walter is owning our coffee table. He definitely thinks he’s the boss.
I love the wild and untrimmed shape of this tree. The randomness makes me very happy.

The rest of our downstairs Christmas home tour:
Powder Room
I added a faux cedar branch from last year with some dried oranges and fairy lights to our powder room. I used wine bottle fairy lights (HERE) which are perfect for a flower arrangement because you can hide the faux cork with the batteries in the vase. They come in a 10 or 12 pack and also make a perfectly unique and affordable gift.
Fireplace
I decorated with the dried oranges throughout the house. When I was in my late teens, for one Christmas year, I had decorated all my presents with packing paper, raffia and dried oranges and this year’s decor makes me think back to that time. I always loved wrapping my gifts for loved ones.
If you missed my snowflake canvas art DIY, then you should check it out because I’m offering the image download for free right now in the blog post.
I love the look of the new curtains with the fireplace decor. They are even better in person because they are the softest fabric I have ever touched. I could use them as a soft throw 😉
This yea’s advent wreath is a tray I bought last year at Target in clearance after Christmas. I had my eye on it all season but didn’t want to spend money on it and was so happy to get it in the end for $9.
Hallway
Below I have a peek into the living room from the hallway.
If you are new around here then you should check out how I reprinted my parents’ original oil painting of my great-grandmother which looks perfect over my little secretary desk. I even added texture to it to make it look like a real painting. Click HERE to see the post. I always move the desk to this wall so there is room for the large Christmas tree in the living room.

Kitchen
As I mentioned above, the kitchen was still white last year and I’m so glad that I made the leap to change it to green. It’s such an easy, affordable, and quick change and the entire family loves it. You can read more about the painting process HERE.
Dining Room
I enjoyed decorating the dining room and kitchen in blue and green this year and the pipe cleaner trees I found at Ikea made the perfect little table center piece.
The wall molding I had added at the beginning of the year add the perfect elegant detail to the room now. Read more about how I added molding HERE.
I hope you enjoyed this year’s Christmas tour of the downstairs of our home. I wish you all a Happy Holiday season.
Now hop on over to my friend Anita’s from Far Above Rubies. I always enjoy her tours so much. I just love the ambiance and history of her home and her photography is always amazing too.
