Christmas home tour with disco balls and bows
Welcome to my Christmas home tour! If you’ve been following me for a while, you know I’m obsessed with disco balls. They’re literally everywhere in my house year-round. This year, I leaned all the way into that sparkle obsession and created a disco ball and bow Christmas theme. I mixed lots of reflective sparkle with velvet bows, glass icicles, and touches of my German heritage for a look that feels both glamorous and cozy.
If you’re coming from Jennifer Rizzo’s Holiday Housewalk and Finding Silver Pennies before me, welcome! Danielle has a beautiful coastal home. I love her style and home so much.
Let me show you around our main floor…

I’ve been a huge fan of disco balls for years and have had my large disco balls under my coffee table since 2015. So a really long time! When I found large fake disco ball ornaments in the Target dollar section a couple of weeks ago, I figured I’d just go with a disco ball tree this year. I had disco ball ornaments years ago and broke them. They were really heavy and weighed down the branches. My new ones are made with disco ball fabric and are perfect, lightweight, large ornaments. I bought 15 of them and now wish I had gone to all the Targets in my area to buy more because I didn’t have enough for the tabletop Christmas tree.

I also bought a new woven velvet ottoman cube before I left for Germany, and I love how it looks with my rug and mirror. The other round velvet ottoman was moved to the fireplace instead of the glass coffee table. Both pieces are part of my 2024 home decor favorites.

I also added several faux garlands to my Christmas decor this year. Last year I used real garlands. The one on the fireplace lasted 3 days before it turned crispy. The one in the dough bowl lasted a week before it shriveled.
On social media, people really hyped up some of the faux garlands, and I ordered two different ones and kept them both. One is a faux cedar garland, which I placed on the fireplace mantle, and the other one is a faux Norfolk Pine garland, which is in the dough bowl and on the TV console.
I also stopped using standard Christmas string lights and only use plug-in fairy lights now (These 100ft waterproof “firefly” string lights are my favorite). No more replacing bulbs or seeing thick green wires. The only fairy lights with batteries are the ones on my coffee table.

The layout and trees I use have remained the same because I’m happy with it and don’t crave a change. I also will always bring back the glass icicles every year because I love them so much and they are worth every penny.
You can also see last year’s Housewalk and how I decorated the same sparse Christmas tree. This year, I skipped the clip on candles for now, but might add them yet.

I bought my daughter a disco ball throw pillow at the beginning of the year for her room makeover. I got a couple more of them and added them to our sofa.
UPDATE: I bought a new mirror for above the sofa. It was hanging too low with the old hook, so I added a bow so I didn’t have to change the hook, and I love the look.

I usually close those doorway curtains to the kitchen for photos but kept it open this year instead so you can see the layout of our house better. My parents always had curtains on doorways like this and I just like the look too. It balances out the curtains on the other side of the room and makes it feel more cozy.

On the other side in the kitchen, I brought my macrame Christmas tree wall hanging back and I also bought myself an early Christmas present, which is the new small gold and green coffee machine. It’s so pretty!

TV console area
When I made my DIY mussel shell craft over the summer, I knew that I wanted to use these beautiful seashell flowers as Christmas decor as well. They are a bit too heavy for a Christmas tree but perfect for a garland on a fireplace or dresser.
Look how perfect the shade of blue is for my grasscloth dresser. I gave that TV console a makeover years ago and still love it.

Disco ball fireplace area
I started with adding velvet bows last year when I made my DIY mushroom ornaments and decided to use them in my fireplace mantle garland instead of the DIY doily snowflakes that I also made last year. Doesn’t the faux garland look great?

A couple of months ago, I thought our 8-year-old orange tabby Maya wouldn’t make it to Christmas. She has small-cell lymphoma, hypothyroidism, and pancreatitis! The mixture of meds, including chemo meds has been working well for her though.

I’ve been playing around with the disco ball pillows all over the house. They are so fun!

I added three melted disco balls to the bookshelf by my fireplace mantle. Check out the DIY melted disco ball tutorial.

Dining room with DIY heart ornaments and red velvet bows
I always like to add touches of my heritage to my Christmas decor and a lot of those items aren’t DIYs. This year however I’ve been into painting folk art and even painted some Bauernmalerei for my kitchen which gave me the idea to paint some more German folk art for one of my trees this year.

I made a quick video tutorial about how to make a bow with thin ribbon). They are so easy and quick to make and I made them for a lot less.

Here is the video tutorial for my DIY heart ornaments. You can find all my videos on my YouTube Channel as well.
If you also like making your own ornaments, check out all my easy and super affordable DIY Christmas ornaments that I made over the years. They all work together, and I bring them back for different looks.

Over the holidays I extend my dining room table with the leaf in it so we all have room to sit. If it’s just the 4 of us throughout the year, I keep it mostly round and small.

Last year I bought some tin houses on clearance and painted them with a gingerbread design the same way I made my DIY gingerbread ornaments with puff paint.

My mom gave me her 1950s Italian spaghetti poodle that she received as a gift from her mom and it found the perfect home on the opposite side of the dining room on my blush sideboard. The bow collar and green floral pattern are perfect and I love how it looks with my DIY fluted lampshades.
I also added a portrait of my young mom that she had drawn in Paris when she was there with my dad. Check out my blog post about how to make a print look like a painting.

And speaking of German holiday decor, I added some more Smoke Men to my collection.

So that is it for today and I hope you enjoyed my tour.
Up next is My Sweet Savannah. I love Melaine’s stunning home, and she always has unique ideas and DIYs in her home.
