The perfect white and blue chandelier for our daughter’s bedroom
I haven’t posted about our daughter’s dark blue bedroom in a while mainly because nothing had changed and it’s usually a tad bit of a mess. I did mention in a post though that her star-shaped Moravian chandelier had broken when my husband hit his head on it and believe me it’s not a piece you want to hit your head on. So ever since then, we’ve been on the hunt for something new that was affordable and didn’t hurt your head when you bumped into it. Oh, and of course a chandelier that our daughter liked because there were so many that I loved but she didn’t.
When I dropped my dad off at the airport after a wonderful two-week visit (where I ate way too much), I stopped at Ikea because it is right on the way to the Philadelphia airport. That’s when I spotted the perfect white and blue chandelier for her room that didn’t break the bank and was made of fabric which meant it wouldn’t hurt our heads either. I texted my daughter and she agreed that it was awesome. Yay!
Finding pieces that your teenager agrees on isn’t always the easiest task is it? You can read up about my tips on how to decorate your teenager’s bedroom HERE by the way.
To refresh your mind, below is a photo of her old chandelier:
And let’s show you the new one…

The perfect affordable white and blue chandelier
The cats were all over this photo session. It was worse than ever and Walter had to hide everywhere.
The chandelier is part of a limited collection at Ikea called TÄNKVÄRD. Another one of those strange names us non-Swedish folks don’t understand but it is a collection that combines Scandinavian freshness with Japanese calm
So our new TÄNKVÄRD chandelier is perfect, don’t you think so?
I know I said that I wanted to DIY something like this but at about $40 it something that I can’t beat.
There really isn’t anything else out there at that looks similar or that is in the same price range. I wrote a post about my favorite cascading chandeliers and they are all way more expensive. Unfortunately, you can’t buy this one online and I feel bad for those of you who want it and don’t have an Ikea close to you. Also if you want one then you have to get it asap because it’s only a limited collection and they might not have it for longer.
Walter and Willy were wrestling all over the place as usual. Walter actually annoys Lilly more and more each day and I frequently hear Willy hiss at his new little brother. I wish he liked him more.
But Maya was present too:

Who can spy Walter in the below photo?
Another new edition to her room is a fish tank that she bought herself from her Christmas money. So far the fish are doing well but the frog disappeared and the snail died. It’s stressing me out a little, to be honest.
Here is the chandelier with the light on:
And an oldie but goodie…just love this photo of the two:
In this case, buying was clearly better than DIYing, am I right?
Oh, and before I forget it, the rug is 65% off right now which is an awesome price. (HERE)
Tschüß,
I love it, what a statement. Such a pretty room
Thanks Marty, I’m so glad that we finally agreed on something
Your daughter’s room is fabulous. Please come and re-decorate my house! You have such an eye for fresh, innovative decor. I got a catalog from Frontgate last week and on the cover there was a patio umbrella in a lemon print similar to your bathroom shower curtain. And I am now seeing lemons everywhere, but you were on to the trend first!
Haha thanks Nancy! I keep seeing lemons everywhere too, even at Target
Love the pairing of dark blue with your other color choices!!!!
Thanks, the dark blue was entirely her choice and I’m glad I gave in ☺️
it was MADE for her room! emmy and i were drooling over it!
Thanks, it really does pay off to wait sometimes. And I’m glad that we finally agreed on a light
I love the chandelier! Perfect for a teens bedroom. Looks like your cats do the same thing mine do-wherever I go in the house they are sure to follow.
Thanks Donna and yes they do! I love that they follow me wherever I go! It’s so cute
ooh, I love it! What a great find! (and, yes, I can see how the old one–lovely though it was–was a little dangerous 😉 )
