A hint of fall tour
It’s fall tour time again and I’m thankful to Marty of a Stroll Thru Life for putting this lineup together again this fall season. And welcome everyone from hopping over to my blog from Laura’s of Inspiration For Moms. I hope you enjoyed her beautiful tour just as much as I did.
My long time blog readers and friends know that I’m not the biggest fall decor fan and that I like to do something a bit different and usually only a hint of fall. There are no wreaths in my house and no abundance of pumpkins either. I usually only like to use pumpkins that we can also cook with. We make pumpkin soups and my husband makes a wonderful pumpkin pie from scratch which I share this fall as well.

I’m starting the tour off with my favorite photo I took for the blog hop. It is of our little 5-month-old Willy watching me behind the flower arrangement I made. He follows me around and inspects everything I do. It really is such a different experience to have a cat that you have raised with a bottle since 2 weeks of age. He will never know what it feels like to be left behind at a shelter and he is growing up spoiled rotten with a matching attitude.
I also added more black and white to my decor and I’m not referring to my black and white cat. Shocking isn’t it? But I couldn’t resist the 24 x24 inch buffalo check pillows when I saw them at the store. They are just so well made and pretty and perfect for fall and winter. I moved the pom pom throw from the dining room to the fireplace area which gives it an extra cozy touch (similar pompom throw).
Last year I used lots of blue thistles and flowers and foliage from our yard. This year the thistles weren’t for sale at the local produce place, so I went for a different look. I love arranging florals and I wrote about my favorite affordable flower arrangement ideas.
This year I went with dark maroon, well almost black Calla Lilies, orange Habanero peppers, dark red foliage from our yard and some other affordable fall flowers from the local market.
I really love how it turned out. The peppers add the orange fall color without the traditional pumpkin. They actually ended up being a hit with my cats who continuously steal them and play with them which you can see in the next photo. So odd.
Spy Willy again in the next photo?

And lets not forget about my old Lucy who is struggling a lot with her health lately too.
And there is my Maya trying to get a hot pepper out from under the chair.
If you are wondering where the pillow ended up that I made from my mom’s old jeans skirt…well it ended up on my desk chair since I only have one.
Do you guys remember the purse strap I bought while I was in Germany? It’s still my favorite thing ever and I get asked about it all the time. So much more affordable than the original Valentino strap.
So let’s get to the living room. I tried to just add another layer of warmth to the decor instead of going full-on fall. Some fur, apples and a cooking pumpkin is all I added to that corner.
To the right, you can see a basket that I found at HomeGoods and I added all the throw blankets my kids use to snuggle and watch TV to it. It’s so much better to stuff them in there when not in use. I couldn’t find a similar one online though unfortunately.

Do you guys remember the outdoor floor pillow from my front porch makeover? (click HERE to see) Well that nice big pillow was placed indoors when we were traveling and the cats claimed it as their own. It’s become a lovely huge pet bed as you can see in the below dining room photo.

And for those of you who are new to my blog, I’ll show you the rooms that didn’t change for fall. I just simply like them the way they are and no need to add fall to every corner:

Thanks Cassie, Willy really was meant to be in our house. You’d think I picked him to match 😉
I love it all. You do black and white so well and everything always looks amazing with all your little details that you add. Love that fall floral arrangement too, so beautiful. Thanks so much for joining the tour, such a gorgeous home.
Julia, I love your home! The way you mix black and white patterns is so beautifully done. And that flower arrangement with the orange peppers…perfection!
It all looks lovely! I’m especially fond of the floral arrangement with the peppers tucked in–what a great idea! our house sitters grew peppers in our garden this summer…now I’m wondering if I have enough left to do something decor-y for fall with mine!
Thanks Gretchen, maybe you should 😉 I wonder if your furry kids would be obsessed with them too. Mine really don’t leave them alone.
Julia your sweet kitties are such a delight! I adore the wonderful centerpiece you created with the dark calla lilies. I had to pin it!
Thank you so so much Laura, I really appreciate it.
Julia, I love all the black and bold patterns you use in your home. So beautiful and such a classy Fall look!
Thanks so much Deb. Happy Fall to you.
Love your fall touches, and your cats!

Thank you so much for the visit and sweet words Anita.
Time and time again, no matter the season, you manage to pull off a one-of-a-kind home tour in the blogosphere Julia! Amazing! I am smitten with your floral arrangement and the use of pepper? Just plain GENIUS! As always, honored to share this Fall Home tour with you! Cheers!
You are always the sweetest Vel. Your comments make my day, so thank you so so much and enjoy the rest of your week. Can’t wait to see your tour.
Absolutely gorgeous! I’m not sure if my favorite accessory from your home is the buffalo check or the cats! Love, love, love!!
LOL thanks Christy. I will always say the cats though 😉
This has to be one of my favorite home tours! I love the subtleness of it! That floral arrangement in the opening shot is beyond gorgeous!
Thanks so much! I really enjoy arranging flowers.
Love how bright and fresh and modern your home looks! Happy to be on the tour with you!
Thanks Andrea. Can’t wait to see yours.
Your fur babies are the perfect accent to your home decor, they’re lovely! You’re the best at working with black and white and mixing patterns, so well done. Love your home!
Thanks Cristina, off to check out your tour now. Can’t wait
Everything looks so pretty, Julia. That arrangement is stunning and the color of the calla lilly is gorgeous!
Girl, you knocked this out of the park. Your home looks so beautiful right now!
I love your “Hint of Fall tour.” It perfectly compliments your home and I love the combination of black, white and orange. That flower arrangement is absolutely stunning. Thank you for giving us a glimpse of your beautiful home Julia.
The orange peppers are so smart! I love the color and size of them. You’re all ready for Fall! I still have my Fourth of July stuff out… ooops… this post has given me some motivation!
Thanks Emily. 4th of July is pretty too. I’m sure you intentionally left it out for September 11th right? 😉
Everything looks awesome (as usual). I love the space by your fireplace, that floral arrangement is so good! And how funny that your cats keep stealing the little peppers!! I love how you used them in with the flowers, so unexpected and pretty.
I never thought they’d pick the peppers out as a toy. SO bizarre and thanks so much!
I adore your style! And your kitties just add to the decor. I love how Willy blends with the black and white. Using hot peppers to add a pop of orange is genius!
I love it, with all the fall abundance I love how you focused on just using beautiful things in your home. Still seasonal, but also perfectly within your style. Those flowers are gorgeous! XO, Amy
Love all the black and white! And your sweet kitties, precious.
Thank you for the tour. Your furries are adorable!
So lovely! I love all of the black and white decor – so easy to just add a few seasonal touches. And, I must say, your cats are adorable!
julia- always so fun to come visit you and to see the love you have for your animals in your beautiful home. I am so glad that you include them in your photos.
I am crazy and about black and white – love, love, love your home! Willie is the best “accessory” ever…sounds like he is imprinted being raising by humans. He will never know he is a cat, why should he?
Thanks Janet. And it’s such a unique experience having raised my little Willy since he was a tiny little baby. It’s such a bad and I love it.
Julia I love your unconventional fall decorating so much! The little peppers are seriously the perfect pop of orange but so unexpected and fun! And how cute are your cats, seriously, they are the best accessories ever 🙂
Thanks Lisa, I think my cats make every room better too. I just wish other people would agree more too. Thankfully you do 😉
Those little orange peppers are my favorite!
