Outdoor Cat Jungle Gym
A lot of people ask me about my cat enclosure and tell me that they want to build a kitty jungle gym themselves. But I never really get to see if they do actually go to the length of building one. So far, I only had two people send me pictures of their own outdoor cat jungle gym, and I love them.
So when Mark contacted me with some questions, I asked him if he would send me photos when he was done. And of course, did he send me photos. Lots of photos, and I’m super excited to show them to you. His cats are a lucky little furry crowd and are really enjoying their new homemade cat jungle gym with long tunnels and a cage coming right out of the house. The long tunnels along the fence lead to two kitty jungle gym structures, with one of them perched high up in the trees.

Mark really catered to his cats’ natural instincts by giving them a lot of high places to sit and watch birds and squirrels.
I absolutely love how high up the cats can sit in their cat jungle gym structure that even has a roof on it!
Cats love sitting up high and being able to look down on things. I’d love to extend mine and have something for them to sit up high as well.

Long wire mesh tunnels
Doesn’t his kitty look happy lounging in the sun? It looks like it has a big smile!
Mark built really long tunnels along the fence that are leading to his two cat jungle gym structures.
There are frequent traffic jams in the tunnels. The cutest traffic jams I have ever seen, am I right?
Play structure
In this enclosed play structure are some perches, platforms, toys and even a cat tree in the center with a sisal scratch post at the bottom.
His cage really is a cat jungle gym because they have so many different perches to choose from. He even placed their litter box out here, which is possible due to the roof, which I don’t have.
This is the area where you could add some more cat furniture and scratching surfaces.

Mark chose a flap in the window instead of the insert that I am using in our enclosure.
Beyond cool isn’t it? I love the cat jungle gym on the old chimney!

Why is an outdoor cat jungle gym good for cats?
An outdoor cat jungle gym provides a space for cats to exercise, play, and explore the outdoors safely. It provides opportunities for physical activity, mental stimulation, and a change of scenery, which can be beneficial for a cat’s overall well-being and mental health. They can also satisfy a cat’s natural instincts to climb, scratch, and hunt, which can help prevent behavioral issues that can arise when cats are not given enough opportunities to express their instincts.
Especially in a multi-cat household a lot of stress can arise between the feline relationships and an outdoor structure like that diverts their attention away from each other.
Where to buy outdoor cat jungle gyms
Not everyone likes to DIY things. If you can’t or don’t want to build a cat structure yourself then you could consider buying one of the below ones. They are pretty affordable actually.

I like it, but what’s wrong with the cats? Why are they not allowed in the yard?
The enclosure is to keep them safe from running outside of the yard. I think it is awesome. There are so many dangers outside of the yard, including neighbors who don’t like kitties. It’s a great idea right?

Thanks for all the nice comments! Julia really inspired me to make this and I’m no carpenter. It’s really one of my first wood projects ever. But it just jad to be as good as hers. She was very helpful with my questions. One hear later now i am going to add to it ao stay tuned. My walkway has grown with vines and offers good shade now. Its been a hot summer but my kitties are outside moat of the time. Even in the winter they are out lots. May do some upgrades and get a nice finish on the wood as Julia has done.
