My 5 favorite Ways to Decorate an Outdoor Space
This week’s theme is “5 favorite ways to decorate an outdoor space” and they thought of me. Yay! Hey they know me well, I love to decorate our outside.
So let me get started because I added something new to our front porch too.
Here are my 5 favorite things I have done to our outdoor spaces. For me the main idea outside is to decorate the same way you would indoors. I look at our outdoors spaces as different rooms and decorate accordingly.
Adding art or a mirror to your front porch or patio:

I previously hung a mirror on my back patio as part of the Home Depot Style Challenge and loved it so much that I wanted to add another mirror to our newly painted front porch.
I ended up finding a vintage bamboo mirror on Craigslist for $30 which was a little more than I wanted to spend but since I loved it so much I bought it anyway.
At home I did some research and found the same one on Etsy (click HERE and HERE) and it’s being sold for way more. And I almost fell off my chair when I saw that it’s being sold for $850 on Chairish (click HERE), so I guess $30 was a great deal. Yay!
And I think it’s the perfect addition to the entry of our house. I love how it reflects the trees and surroundings.
Painting your concrete front porch in a bold stripe or pattern:

You have to see the before photos if you haven’t already, the porch now ties in with the rest of our house and makes such a statement for anyone who visits our house.
It defines the space without having to add an outdoor rug and it didn’t end up costing a lot of money.
Adding a cabana to your patio to create an outdoor dining room:

This was such an easy way to define our patio as an intimate outdoor dining space and it can be reused anywhere since it was made with a standard popup tent which you can find at most chain stores. I could even take it to the beach now if I would want to.
Creating a cozy outdoor lounge area:

This is a view of our flagstone patio which is under the shady cover of walnut and sycamore trees. One of my vintage rugs fit the hammock perfectly and creates such a beautiful unexpected place to hang out.
Creating an outdoor space for your pets:

If you’ve been around my blog for a while then you know that I never forget about my cats because they are an important part of our family and one of my first blog posts was about how I built them their own catio. Some of my readers have used mine as examples for building their own which you can see HERE and HERE.
Now please check out what my friends have listed as their “5 favorite ways to decorate an outdoor space”.

Tschüß,
Julia, your outdoor spaces are so beautiful. I love your hammock so so much! I wish we had a spot to do that, the rug, fluffy throw and plants make it the perfect afternoon lounging spot! Thanks for joining us for MFF, you always have the best ideas!
your outdoor areas are the best! love the use of mirrors and you know how i feel about loungy hammocks! and if you are free this summer come on over and paint my porch with me… 😉 what do you think about painting it cobalt blue?? hmmm…..
You were no doubt the perfect person for this post! I adore your patio and hammock areas – do you want to come spruce up my backyard???
Your outdoor spaces are the best! I really want to hang a mirror outside, I just don’t have much wall space on my patio. I’m going to see if I can squeeze one in somewhere!
Yes, we knew you’d be perfect for our outdoor topic!! 🙂 I’m dying over your striped porch, what a great way to add a fun dose of personality! And, your back patio is a little oasis, makes me want to grad a book and lounge!
Great spaces and genius ideas!

Your outdoor spaces are so cozy! I love them all! I need a hammock in my life!
More than the decorating ideas I’m in love with feature photo – the one with the mirror feature on your front porch. Love the photo – can’t get over it. Although this may be heavily skewed because I probably still have my photography eye on as I just came back from spending an hour outdoors taking some snaps for Instagram and the blog. So… I might still be in that zone…
what did you use to hang the mirrors from your siding?
Great ideas! I could spend the whole day there!:) Perfect for lovely afternoon during weekends.
Thank you Pete
