My parents’ late 1960s to early 1970s apartment
How was your weekend? We finally had spring in the air and it felt so so good. I was able to spray paint something outside. Yay! Good times!
Today I want to do something totally different. I went through some old slides of my parents and found photos of their apartment shortly before I was born.
I love looking at the photos and the 70s style. Yup I was born in the seventies.

My parents still have some of the furniture. Remember their house crash post from last summer? You can recognize a lot of things. Check out their home and the place I grew up in now.
Check out my mom:
I recently asked them if they still had the dining room light fixture somewhere. They had it in our house for the longest time too and it was gold glass. Bummer, they got rid of it 🙁
Check out that wallpaper!!!
They also still have the sideboard and two of those dining chairs but in a different fabric. I love this red-orange way better though.
They still have the red wingback chair but it is blue velvet now and most of the brass lamps are still there too.
My mom is putting her feet on a leather pouf. Love it.
They always had a thing for library walls.
And we always had a fully stashed bar cart just like you can see below.
Blue upholstery and marble coffee table. Got to love it!
The brass bucket is still with them as well and it’s one of my favorite pieces ever. It used to belong to my dad’s grandmother, palm tree and all.
What is an odd style is having the thick silk drapery all the way to the floor but short sheer curtains over the windows.
I hope you enjoyed this short little trip in time and I also hope my parents forgive me for sharing this on the blog. Well, I think they don’t mind.
Tschüß,
(Youleeya)

I was also born in the 70’s and love looking at old photos from that era. Very fun and stylish. Thanks for sharing. PS- You look so much like your Mom.
love these photos. I know it was the seventies (way back then! ha! I was born in the mid seventies), but it’s great to see how timeless some pieces can be. congrats on the home tour too!

What a fun post Julia! I love seeing how our parents decorated and yours definitely had some great pieces! You may have just inspired me to dig up some of our own photos 🙂
This is so fun! It makes me want to see if I can’t find pictures of my mom’s house. I’m also convinced your mom and mine are twins. My mom’s high school graduation picture looks exactly like the first one you showed! Crazy!

Such a cool idea! Loved seeing their 70’s style!!
Now I know where you got your love of design from. It looks like their house was pretty stylish in it’s day. I especially love the built-ins.
Your mom was such a babe!
Love it! It’s kinda crazy to think of our moms decorating for their families just the way we are doing it now. Great tour—-thanks for sharing!

Incredible! Love your parents’ style! Isn’t it funny how things come back! You look so much like your mom!
So cool, I loved seeing this! You look a bit like your mom back then, huh?
How interesting! It’s amazing how many of those pieces we would snatch right up today and be thrilled with a vintage find! And, how many things are back in style, just with a bit of an update.
You can really see the full circle of things coming back into style. And what a fashionable, young mom you have.
This is awesome! I love seeing those pictures! I’m especially obsessed with that dining room wall paper and light fixture! Emily Henderson would LOVE this!
Chic-est 70s pad ever. I absolutely love it! Especially that shot with the TV wall unit. Also, your mom was a babe. I want to do a post like this!
I was born in the 70’s too! Your mom is a hottie!! (: I loved this, pretty stylish if you ask me especially the bar and the bookshelves!!
OMG! This is adorable. You get your beauty genes from your mom for sure. 🙂 Thanks for taking us back in time.
How neat! It’s always fun to look back at old trends and see how they come back around. We have a picture of my mother in law from when she was in her twenties and they have the same clock on the wall that I have in my house now!
You look just like your mom… well lighter hair maybe….. and their apartment is wonderful. Your dad must have been loaded to have such a nice place for them. It is really quite elegant. I am off to see all the nice houses in the tour… and get jealous again….. grin.
I loved this post Julia. Your mom is HOTTTAYYY!! There are some things that will forever be timeless, like marble top tables and blue upholstered sofas. This totally goes to show that what goes around comes back around again. Thanks so much for sharing:)
Wow, great style (past on to generations I see) ; ) I loooove seeing pics from the past, tends to show us that things change and in many ways they ‘dont – timeless beauty.
Wow–those are so fun! I wish I had pictures that showed off my childhood home a little better….these are great! And I love that they still have a lot of the pieces 🙂
My parents had beads as window treatments in the bathrooms, metallic, shiny wallpaper, fake wood paneled walls … and a very well stocked bar cart!

I love this look back into your childhood home. Your parents were very stylish and had great taste! The light fixtures are very cool – is that one over the coffee table?
It’s gonna be so interesting what we’ll be thinking about our style today in 40 years… Considering how fun the 70s look to us today!
Loved this little trip down the memory lane, especially because it was ‘before me’ 🙂
That’s so true, I wonder what we will think about our style 😉
