Green Traditional Dresser Makeover
Happy Monday my friends. I finally have a computer again as of last night. Yay!!! My files are a mess though but I’m slowly starting to function again. “Hi my name is Julia and I’m a computer addict.” I definitely came to that realization during last week.
On another note wrestling season has started for my son again, so I will be spending most of my weekends at the gym listening and watching crazed wrestling parents scream at their boys. I’m really always rather disgusted with how a lot of people act at those events. But my husband loves wrestling and really wants our son to do it too. Let’s see how that’ll go as of now our son wants to do it too.
So I wanted to kick things off with a furniture makeover today. My happiness about my new computer and my enthusiasm was immediately buffered by the fact that I couldn’t find the darn before picture of the dresser. Ugh, I hate when that happens. What’s a makeover without a before picture??? Nothing!
But let me put it into different words. I’m so happy to have a computer again and a better one to top things off, so I have to except the fact that my files are somewhat a mess and it’ll take a while to get back to normal.
Here is my makeover without a before picture and I hope you guys will forgive me 😉
This dresser had a yellowish brown ho-hum finish but since the lines are traditional and not the usual midcentury modern lines that I usually go for I had to redo it with a finish that matched it’s style.
I went with another DYIed chalk paint. Remember my posts about the chalk paint recipes HERE and HERE? It is latex paint mixed with the Calcium Carbonate Powder.
I don’t know if you missed my DIY feather art, also known as dishtowel art 😉 , then you can click HERE to see it.
The other canvas is a plaid fabric that I bought at Ikea and stretched over a canvas that I had left in my attic.
And that’s it for today my friends. I will be busy setting up my computer for the next couple of days and who knows, I might even find my before photo of this dresser. I really hate when this happens.

love this! the color is so rich and perfect with the hardware!
Looks great, love it.
Ist auch nicht schlimm, dass du das vorher Bild nicht mehr hast.
Love and hugs

I LOVEEEE that color combo!! Gorgeous!
Love the dresser and that hardware! Gorgeous! Also, the styling is great. I’m still jealous of that feather art. =)
Love it’s bling – and that feather art is fabulous!

I think I have that dresser’s twin in it’s original color hidden in my closet, holding undies. If it looked as good as yours does now, I’d have it out on view. Great job and glad to see you posting again.
Thanks Patricia!
Ooo, I REALLY like this color! A lot. A lot.
Love the colour. When we had our trees taken down at the front of the house, I asked them to keep a chunk of trunk for me. I had originally thought that I’d make it into a side table, but it’s just too skinny to be stable. I am loving your big slice of trunk on the dresser though…maybe I’ll just do that!
looks great! I love the gold pulls…were those the originals?
Yay for having a computer back! I hope things start to settle in for you. 🙂
The makeover is great…such a deep, rich color! The handles are my favorite! 🙂
Wow looks beautiful!!

Thank you Dee!
love this color! the hardware pop perfectly too.
It looks awesome!! I love the color! I know how you feel about sports and trust me it’s all sports, my daughter is a volleyball player and plays year round and the parents all think their girls are going to play division 1 volleyball in college! I love the girls joy from playing the sport they love and it’s the parents who make it stressful at times so I know how you feel! Anyways I’m glad the computer issue is fixed!!
First, I totally relate to how some parents go off the deep end at their kids’ events. It’s crazy and I always feel bad for their kids! Second, I love the color and how fall-inspired it is. You styled this perfectly. Amy
THE GORGEOUS BRASS HARDWARE: delicious! Also how did I miss the feather art? I need that.
I love it, Julia! So perfect for fall.
Yay, welcome back to blogging!! lol, glad your backup and running!! The dresser & hardware look fantastic!!
That’s beautiful! So glad you have a computer again. I’m imagining the grossest, most horrible “before” picture. 🙂 The “after” is stunning. LOVE that hardware!
Beautiful job, and how perfect is that vignette!!
This looks great! It’s styled very holiday-appropriate too 🙂
Man I really need to try out your chalk recipe. Your dresser looks great and those pulls are fab!
Lovely styling. Such a nice fall look!
I love this – and I’m sort of obsessed with the plaid fabric. So festive!
Yay! I’m so glad you have a working computer again!
I love the green color on that dresser, and those handles are really great – were they original or did you replace them? Also the gold deer on the log just may be my favorite thing ever 🙂
the dresser is pretty and I really like the color you chose for it , it looks great with the gold hardware & love how you styled it too! 🙂
I’m very happy for you that you have your new computer! 🙂 & hope you find your ‘before’ picture too 🙂
I LOVE the green and gold. This looks so great. You did an amazing job!
Looks great!! LOVE those pulls! And everything looks fab when styled with antlers… Love it!T
Congrats on having a son that wrestles! my son started wrestling when he was 5 and he is now a freshman wrestling at an ivy league school! it was a long road…many weekends filled by sitting on those hard bleachers but it helped him get to where he is and I wouldn’t trade those times for anything. Ignore the crazy parents (wrestling is full of crazy dads and crazier moms!) and enjoy the life lessons your son is learning. There are few youth/high school sports out that there that force you to compete one on one and I think the lessons learned from that alone are priceless….there is nobody to hide behind or blame – you get out of it exactly what YOU put into it. Congrats and good luck to both of you!! Hope you have a safe and succesful season. Oh, love the dresser too. 🙂
Where is he wrestling at? That’s great! I can only dream about that for my son!
And thanks
Love the color so much – and your styling looks so great too!
Love the color and how you styled the top! That IKEA fabric is great! Is it a good enough weight for a pillow?
Looks great Julia! Love that color! It’s different and I like that! Welcome back:) Laura
You have a great sense of style. The dresser looks awesome!
love the cozy styling and those pretty pulls!
Absolutely beautiful!!! And the styling is perfection! That plaid and that green need to go get married…they just belong together. And speaking of weddings, how pretty would this combination be for a wedding. Your picture could totally be inspiration for a gorgeous wedding!
I totally hate not being able to find a before!! Your makeover is delightful though 🙂 Side note: SO not looking forward to the crazy parents at sporting events in my future…why are people so insane?
Love the green with the gold. It looks great with the vignette that’s Christmasy and also masculine – the plaid, the feathers, the wood, and gold deer so gorgeous!
Love the gold detail and the hardware. Perfect for this piece! My favorite, though, is your crazy good styling on top! I absolutely love it!
I love the dresser and art. I just love how you got the plaid fabric to compliment the dresser and I need to go read about the feather art now also. I would love to do the green color for my living room furniture or at least one piece. Can I ask you where you bought your calcium carbonate powder? I have tried and tried to find it locally, but only finding the tablets. I am keeping one of these pictures as my inspiration for my future living room make over. I am having a terrible time just figuring out a wall color to paint over this fake wood finished paneling (Steve told me it is real wood and I am ‘what ev’). I am inundated with way too much wood….. being I am not big on browns to begin with. Plus I have the awful, some form of reddish, but weird color brick fireplace. HELP?
Just checked out the Amazon for Calcium Carbonate Powder……. sheesh, $10.49 for 4 ounces…. well the shipping is free….. I really need a local source.
I love the color, and the little accents, and of course your styling. 🙂
