Girls bedroom with Dark Blue Walls
I mentioned last week that my daughter wanted teal as her new wall color but after I purchased some samples that she had picked and applied them to the wall, she decided that she wanted a dark blue.

She picked Valspar Indigo Cloth:
It’s a really pretty color.
I’m trying to achieve this makeover with the lowest cost possible of course because she doesn’t even need this makeover.
What she does need is some new shelving and storage since the Ikea Expedit in her room has been broken for a long time and she could really use some drawers to keep all her craft supplies and such. That new storage might have to wait a little since I’m kind of broke right now. Lets see!
So besides that I want to share with you what else we have been planning on a budget.
lama art (HERE)
hummingbird art (HERE)
soccer quote art (by me)
rainbow felt garland (HERE)
dark blue Ikea pillow
butterfly pillow (HERE)
rainbow Ikea pillow (HERE or similar HERE)
rug (HERE)
my bed DIY made from Ikea curtains (HERE) and similar headboard (HERE)
hanging chair (HERE)
ombre curtains (HERE)
yellow duvet cover (HERE)
diamond pattern pillows (not available anymore at Ikea)
swing arm lamps (HERE)
similar light (HERE,HERE or HERE)
throw (HomeGoods)
{You can see the chair hanging in her room HERE and more stylish hanging chairs HERE}
Her rug has been sold out for a long time. I gathered some other options for a similar look (the thumbnail image will take you to the source).
I’m sure that she will change her mind about some of the things. The hanging chair (HERE) is already bought and we also have all the rainbow and blue velvet pillows. It really pays off to hoard pillow covers from Ikea.
The soccer quote she wanted and I started to make her is also a sure thing. She loves it.
The lama and hummingbird were favorites of hers while browsing minted to lets see if we will add them to the room.
I was not to keen on changing her room because I loved it so much before but seeing now how her personality shines through with her choices and where this is heading, I do have to say that I’m loving it more and more.
There is so much to do yet and it’s a slow process but we are getting there.
Tschüß,
oooh i love this plan and love the art you’ve selected and colorful pops!
Wow I love the wall color! I can’t wait to see how this room turns out! I also have a entire drawer full of Ikea pillow covers 😉
It will be a slow process to get it done but I can’t wait too. Isn’t it nice to have all those pillows stashed?
Me, too! It seems more grown up.
Yes in a way it does appear more grown up. More like a teenager
Loving the chair. I was looking at the Urban Outfitters swivel chair from your swivel chair post, but at $300 I was hesitating to buy it for the 14 year old daughter’s room because their tastes seem to change every minute. And secretly I thought a hanging chair would be the way to go, now that you posted this much more affordable one, think I’ll give it a go instead.
Yes it’s definitely more affordable. Glad you like it too. My daughter really really loves it and it’s well made. She wanted a swivel chair at first too and when I showed her this she quickly changed her mind.
I like it!!! It does look like a room that can take her through her teen years too, but we know females change their minds frequently!!
LOL, yes we sure do. Especially if she is anything like me.
Hi Julia, love love love the colour!
About your instastory, I do admit, that I hardly do check-in in any of the blogs I used to love. And I consider myself to be totally mainstream(NOT humblebragging, I say again NOT humblebragging)
When I spend time on my phone mindlessly it is on instagram, I notice a shift there too, more and more people are posting instastories instead or on top of the pics, they’re fun, sometimes informative, but it consumes more time to watch them, compared to just flipping through pics. And after all it boils down to the day having 24 hours only 🤷♀️
Have fun on the slopes!
Tschökess, Katrin
I’m so glad you are still checking in with me! Thank you so much! Yes, Instastories take a lot of time but are a fun glimpse into other peoples lives.
I was sad when you first shared that your daughter wanted to change her room because I loved it so much before too and I didn’t think teal sounded like it would be harmonious with the bed. I’m glad she shifted to indigo and I actually really like the new color. I think it will look great. I know you mentioned she doesn’t want to keep the rug but I hope she reconsiders. I think it looks awesome with the new wall color and I LOVE that hummingbird!
This makes me think of when I was a teenager and my interior designer mom had set me up with a super sweet girly room because at age 9 I asked for pink and purple. So I had soft pink walls, a pink bedspread with purple flowers, purple chair, etc. When I was 15 I demanded my walls be painted dark red!! I’m sure my mom died inside, but she made it happen and turned my pink princess room into a super cool bohemian cave, with sari pillow cases and an Indian tapestry. If it helps, I still remember how much I loved and appreciated that she put her own desires aside and made the change for me.
love the plans! I think I would paint every room in my house navy if I thought I could get away with it, so thumbs up on the wall color from me!
Hi, love the rug do you have a direct link. The link in the comments does not go straight to the rug and I have been looking for hours!
I am pretty sure it is sold out everywhere. I’m sorry
