Gray French Provincial Dresser Makeover
I gave you a sneak peek of the desk that I was working on in my last post. I’m finished!
This is what the desk looked like before:
I removed all the hardware and stripped several layers of paint from them.
I decided to actually leave them the original gold.
I sanded, primed and painted the desk a pretty shade of grey. I painted the inside of the drawers white.
Then I taped an outline on top of the desk and painted that with gold liquid leaf.
And here it is:
you can see the painted lamp here |
I lined the drawers with Laura Ashley Drawer Liner that I found at TJ Maxx. It looks black in the picture but is actually a pretty dark grey.
I’m really happy with the outcome, don’t you think so? And now it is looking for a good home 😉
Talk to you soon fellow webbers und guten Tag.

it looks amazing! i love the gold on the top!
Thank you!
The desk looks beautiful – I love the combination of grey and gold here!
Thank you so much 🙂
Oh wow… that looks great! Love how it goes with everything else you are doing in there and that grey paint color is to die for! Awesome job 🙂
Danke schön 😉
Looks amazing. Love that gold!
Well, thanks a bunch 😉
I am loving it! Love the color, and the gold on the pulls, and the lamp, and the mirror! Everything is perfect! xoxo Denise, a fellow legal alien as well 🙂
Gorgeous! The gold stripe is perfect 🙂
Thank you!
This turned out so pretty! I just finished painting a similar style desk for my sister in law. We went black and silver though. The grey and gold is really nice, too, though.
Thank you so much! I did silver and black on a french provincial piece already too and it’s also a very pretty combination.
So very pretty! Love the color and the pulls. Thank you for sharing. Visiting from Primitive and Proper. Would love it if you would share this at my Make it Pretty Monday party at The Dedicated House. http://thededicatedhouse.blogspot.com/2012/10/make-it-pretty-monday-week-17.html Hope to see you at the bash! Toodles, Kathryn @TheDedicatedHouse
Hi Kathryn and thank you for coming over and inviting me to your linky party! I’ll come over on Monday!
The whole look is really stunning!
Thanks so much!
This piece is beautiful! Can you tell me the paint color?
Thanks Brenda. The paint color is Rustoleum winter grey.
I love the desk. I have a similar style desk that had a leather top that was torn, so I pulled it all off. There is a groove all the way around and two inches in on the desk top now. Any ideas about how I can finish the top off? Thanks! PS My daughter-in-law is from Kempen, Germany. She is an interpreter and Crochet genius.
Wow, a crochet genius! Love it!
That’s a tough one with the leather top. Could you use a peace of cork board? or do you want it to be one smooth finish?
i painted an almost identical desk. White was my color of choice, but I also left the original hardware!! wish I would have photographed it 🙁 yours is beautiful!
That’s so cool. Always take pictures 😉 Did you keep it or sell it?

Hi there. I am doing a desk at the moment that looks very similar. Just wondering how you stripped back your handles to original gold? My ones look the same as yours before they were stripped with the green stuff?
