White Cross Coat Closet Makeover
So peeps, last Wednesday I shared my hallway makeover with you (if you missed it click HERE) and this Wednesday I’m sharing my hallway closet makeover.
I really could’t just stop there! I basically screamed don’t leave me behind when I opened up the door. It was really bad with the walls all banged up. Yuck!
I decided to do the reverse treatment of the white walls and black crosses. Or how my mom called it: “The Soldiers’ Cemetery”…typical comment for my mom. LOL, love it!
Black walls and white crosses it is and here are some photos:
This is another project where I didn’t have to buy a thing. Love that!
• The pink box was actually a brown Ikea box which was in the closet before and I only spray painted it pink. Don’t ask my why, I was just feeling it. Maybe because of the season…who knows. But I love the color with the black wall.
• The Ikea hangers were also already in the closet a I spray painted them gold, cause I’m fancy like that.
• And the striped box was in my basement.
• Like I mentioned in my last post, I have a stash of wall vinyl so no need to buy that either. All I had to do is cut more on my silhouette.
• The paint was leftover from my hallway makeover and is Valspar eggshell Dark Kettle Black (4011-2)
• I added some white hooks that were lying around in my garage to the third row of crosses to hang up bags.
That’s it.
{UPDATE: you can see some new neon Kate Spade boxes that I received for the closet by clicking HERE)
Are you dying to see some before photos? Yikes! Here ya go:
I laid down the law that we limit one Jacket a person and the rest goes into our walk-in closets. Let’s see who’s going to break the law first.
What do you guys think. Pretty cool for not spending any money right?
And I still can’t make up my mind if I should offer the tutorial or sell the crosses in my shop. What do you guys think? Maybe both?

This whole thing looks amazing – I love the image where you have the black wall with the owl art on one end and the closet at the other. It’s so striking! And you painting your hangers gold?! That is fabulous.
I’m in love with this! What a statement. Can you come over and do mine (lay down the law and everything, please)? Great Job, Julia!
OH WOW! it’s gorgeous! i just love it- you are on a creative roll and i love it!
Love the contrast, but my question to you is, how do you cut the crosses so perfectly and how do you attach them to the wall And do you use a level to line up the crosses? I quess I need the “How To” of this project.
I made them with wall vinyl and my silhouette which I mentioned in my last post.
I haven’t quite made up my mind yet if I want to write a tutorial or sell them in my Etsy shop.
What do you think?
Wow! Black and white, always stealing my heart! The reverse treatment = pure genius + unbelievably gorgeous! Your hallway looks magazine worthy!
This really is so amazing Julia! I love the dramatic affect. It is so unique! I wish I was half that creative. Great job!
Oh my gosh, I didn’t think the wall could get any better!! Crazy creative and cool, my friend!!
I never thought I’d say this, but that’s the sexiest closet I’ve ever seen!!! Gold hangers?? Black walls? You killed it!!! Hugs, Amy
It looks really nice. so clean. I would do the tutorial and sell the crosses in your etsy shop. I used to follow a blog and in the beginning she used to show how to make a flower and now she sells the tutorial for me that’s giving half the information so frustrating. For me a blog is about sharing. Mignonne
Thanks! That’s true. I wouldn’t want to sell the tutorial just the decals for those folks who don’t want to make them 😉
LOVE IT!!
Way too cool! And the gold hangers? Brilliant! I absolutely love the contrast of the space, and am thinking maybe you should just take the door off. That closet is way too pretty to be closed up!
great idea. this looks really fab. great job lady!
Wow, I’m floored, Julia! I can’t believe the before and after pictures! You managed to pack so much style into what seemed like a tiny space. I love how fearless your style is evolving to be.
Please, please, PLEASE sell these in your shop! I am so inspired to do my hallway and utility closet! I love, love, LOVE the black and white cross design w the striped basket, gold hangers and pop of pink! Very modern Glam with a hint of casual! I LOVE it!

I don’t know whether I love the white with black crosses or the black with white crosses more! But I especially love that you have BOTH in your space! Your details like the pink box and gold hangers are wonderful!
I love it so much Julia! I would never have thought to do that in the closet too. Such a nice surprise to open the door to!
So cute!
Gorgeous, gorgeous! Oh I am so jealous of your closet!Angela @ Number Fifty-Three
Ok so just when I thought I couldn’t possibly love this hallway anymore, you go and do THIS! It’s so freakin awesome girl! And though I’m not a gold kinda girl, those hangers are IT! So so good Julia:)
AWESOME! I can’t think of a better word to describe the look!!! Oh maybe AMAZING!!
Absolutely perfect! (And of course you needed the gold hangers!) I love the black and white together–it’s so striking.
Yes, definitely sell these in your shop!
So schwanky! Definitely would have to sip tea with my pinky up in that space. Beautiful job!
Brilliant!
Your closet is so perfect, Julia! I really love the reverse treatment! Very fun 🙂
Your closet looks like some fancy DRESSING ROOM or something!! I love it! I bet you got those hangers from Ikea 🙂 So funny you posted gold hangers today…I pulled out one of my Ikea hangers and DOWSED it in gold glitter and Mod Podge. No reason really. Just felt like doing it lol.
You should start a house staging business or something. Realtors would LOVE you, and it would create more blogging material for you? 🙂

Great idea doing the reverse in the closet! And I love the gold hangers…you are SO fancy! 😉
Love it! I’d like to try it.
I think it would be a good idea to do the tutorial and sell them too, because I know deep down I want to try to make them but will get so frustrated will end buying. But it’s not the same if you don’t attempt it first.
But maybe I’m a masochist.

Haha, do you have a silhouette cameo? It’s not so hard if you have one 😉
Such a fun idea to continue the reverse into the closet and, of course, you sprayed the hangers gold! 🙂
UH-mazing. Seriously. I cannot get enough of your hallway! 🙂
Okay, Julia. Seriously, this is fantastic! Love decorating closets, too. Such a fun, happy suprise with you open that door. 🙂
This is even more amazing. I love the contrast between the 2. Have you seen those black and white baskets from Ross that Little Green Notebook instagrammed? Your closet needs one!
I love the contrast. How does this look when it peels off? would it ruin the wall?
So so pretty! I love this pattern so much. It looks great in the relief 🙂
So fancy! Makes my closets feel so poorly dressed. But I am far too lazy to decorate a closet. 😛 I’ll just admire yours!
Spray painting your hangers gold???? How have I not thought of that! I love this makeover. When guests bring a coat I usually just drape it over a chair because I’m too embarrassed to open the closet.
Just when I thought I couldn’t love your love hallway any more, BAM- your closet! Gorgeous as always, Julia!!
i love it, love it, love it! and the gold hangers are the icing on the cake!
Oh. My. Gosh. This is simply amazing.
I never think to paint my closets, but I love this look so much. And it’s a doable amount of space to transform, too. I also love the idea of adding the crosses.
Pinning.
You have me fully addicted to crosses now. Sell them!
How cool is this!? I love that you’ve got the reverse in the closet. I’m so impressed!
LOVE this and that candle holder turned light fixture is amazing too! I’d love it if you shared this at The Makers link party going on at my blog right now, http://upcycledtreasures.com. Hope to see you there!
Wowza. This is AMAZING. The gold hangers and pink box just put it over the top. Thank you so, so much for sharing at The Makers.
This is so, SO awesome! I love how the black pops against the white. Stopping by from the Makers and am in love with everything about your blog 🙂

Thanks so much Amy! I really appreciate you coming over!
That has got to be the coolest closet I have ever seen! AWESOME!
Thank you!
Julia!!! That is one of the most amazing makeovers I have ever seen!!!! GREAT JOB! I am wow-ed!
I saw the gold hangers and LOST.MA.FREAKIN.MIND!!!!!! Running outside to spray paint some RIGHT.NOW.
Haha!!!
Wow, if I had a closet like that, I’d want to hang out in it ALL DAY. Super chic!
I have no words….fabulous.
Thank you!
