sophisticated boys room with dark green walls
(This is not a sponsored post but PlushRugs provided us with the rug. All opinions are as always 100% my own)
I think I’m finally finished with my son’s new room. Well if there is ever such a thing as being completely done because I’m constantly tweaking but for now I’m calling it done. (You can see my previous post about his room HERE and HERE where I also talked more about the sources and reasons why we picked certain things)

Willy has been all over our son’s new room as you can see in the entire post. Especially having something soft to walk on is making it more appealing to everyone.
I’m so happy with the new area rug I picked from PlushRugs for his room. I wanted something that was subtle but still manly. Something that went with his light grey floors and his beautiful antique bed (similar bed HERE).
I love the look of sisal and natural fiber rugs but they are scratchy most of the time. This beautiful grey flatweave rug (HERE) has the look of a natural fiber rug but is actually super soft.
We love the fringed edges of the rug. It’s as if it was taken straight from the weaving loom.
And Willy agrees as you can see.
I also caved in and bought a new pouf from the Heart and Hand Magnolia collection (HERE). I was so sure that I was going to boycott everything they had to offer but I totally couldn’t stick to my initial resolutions. It really is so good and perfect for the wall color and velvet Ikea curtains.
His poster that I made arrived too. I love the German retro logo with the four stars representing their World Cup wins and most importantly our son loves it more than anything.
You can find the black and white plaid pillows HERE or similar smaller ones HERE and similar red plaid pillows HERE. The throw is by Happy Habitat. The large pillows in the back are actually the arm pillows from our basement sectional. I don’t like them on the sofa but they are perfect for his bed to make it more like a sofa. And if you are wondering where his comforter is, it can be shoved into a bin in his closet instead of having to make the bed. It looks so much better without it.
The beautiful bright yellow sputnik fixture (HERE) that our son picked is perfect for his room and makes it feel more fun. I think without it the room would look a little stuffy and too grown up. It’s the perfect fun addition.

I hung the flag garland (HERE) that will also display his soccer patch collection on his TV wall and actually ended up cutting it so it can be hung in strands with thumbtacks (HERE). The banner is another whimsical addition that we love.
Willy is a sneaky little confident guy. Did you see the video of him snatching the food bowl from me on Facebook? Check out the video HERE. He actually does it to the other cats and they look dumbfounded. Like “what the hell just happened”. Cracks me up every time.
He loves to creep on all of us. Just look at his face behind my son in the next photo.
Maya trying to relax with my son.
And then he strikes. It was so fast that the photos are blurry.
In the blink of an eye, he is on the other side of the ottoman and bites her in the neck to make her leave.
What a little bully but Maya still adores him. And we adore them all.
Update, our son outgrew this bed and has a new one and this one ended up in our daughter’s bedroom which you can see HERE.
Another update: Our son moved to college and you can check out his first year’s James Whitehall dorm room tour and Temple Nest apartment tour for his second year of college.
We are so happy with his new grown-up room. THE END
Tschüß,
I have this same beautiful bed. Did you get a special mattress for it? Right now it is in storage. I originally bought it for my granddaughter but she doesn’t stay here much anymore and I would love to have a place for it because it is so beautiful. His room is so nice. Everything you touch looks beautiful! The cats are great!!!
Yes I had a foam mattress made a long time ago from a place I found online. It was so worth the money spent. and thanks so much Lynn!
wunderschön!! So gorgeous and so unique! I love it.
Vielen Dank Amy!
Love it all! Such a warm masculine room. Not always easy to accomplish. You really had no choice but to buy the pouff. It was made for that room. Magnolia should use your pics as a selling photo because it’s perfect!
Yes I had no choice. I love that pouf
Julia…this room came out perfect. The ottoman really ties it all together.
Thanks Renee
Wow Julia. Boys this age are so challenging to design for and I think you hit it out of the park with this one. I love the leather chair and rich wood tones with the dark greens. Just beautiful!
Thanks so much Katja. I’m glad now that he picked a yellow sputnik and non of the other colors because that sputnik made me decide on the dark green.
This really does look so great and perfect for his age, I love the lamp attached to his bed, I didn’t see you mention where its from?
Thanks Sandra, sorry, I forgot to mention the light again. It’s in my last post. It’s also from Ikea actually.
It looks so good!! Sooo sooo good!
Thanks Ashley
This is a fantastic room for your son! He looks so grown-up and what a handsome guy he is!
Thanks so much. He likes hearing that 😉
That kitty really knows what he wants!
LOL yes he certainly does. I love his confident attitude so much. He’s not scared like all the other rescue kitties we’ve had before. He’s the boss of everything 😉
Love this room! Love the color palette, your mix of traditional pieces with modern, the different textures and patterns. They all come together so beautifully! Your son is a lucky kid!
Well thanks so much 🙂
It’s beautiful and awesome and I love every detail! And those cats! Too funny, so cute!
Hi Roeshel! Thanks so so much. I hope you are doing well.
Just curious why you thought you’d boycott all of the Hearth and Hand items? I loved everything they put out!! His room looks great!
This is such a fabulous space! I love that rug and of course the leather chair. I love the ottoman, too, but I don’t know how long it’s going to last with the cats around 😉
Love this! Where is the use me trash can from?
I found it at HomeGoods but haven’t been able to find the same one online. I wish I could find a source because I get asked about it all the time.
