Saying Goodbye to my cross hallway
Another weekend has gone. Time is running away way too fast again. It was one of those lazy, dreary, yucky ones but despite that I still had to work all day Sunday. I got a little something accomplished which I knew I wanted to tackle for a while now but had to wait until Christmas Ideas Magazine was gone. I’ve had my beloved cross wall hallway since January 2014 now (click HERE to see the post) and it got me into Domino’s list of “Best 17 DIY Blogs“. Everything good needs to come to an end though and for me that time had come. The hallway was such a bold statement and pretty much commanded everything else. My long time followers might remember it  the way it is in the below photo which still has my blogspot watermark and the black wall with owl print (click HERE). I loved that combo too. Everything ends up getting yucky and dirty though after a while, especially in such a high traffic area. And besides my photography improving a bit, I also want a change for something fresher. Lets revisit what it looked like before I took the decals down. A tad bit busy but I loved it regardless.

The black wall was removed last fall. Black just showed so much dust and dirt and every mark we banged into it. The white looked better with my DIY mop head wallhanging (click HERE) too. And then I decided to also remove the dresser for now. It ended up being a dumping ground for everyone which drove me nuts. My kids shoved their school paperwork into it because it had 5 junk drawers and the hubby used it for mail, keys, glasses, wallet, pens, papers and all kinds of other stuff. So I decided to purge and remove the dresser because even if we kept it, it needed a fresh coat of paint. So lets see how we live without it because now everything also looks a lot bigger.
That’s the view into the kitchen and dining area:
Finally here is the hallway without the crosses now:
Â
It’s like a reversed before and after. A “lets simplify” makeover.
And I love it. Not going to say it will stay like that but I really welcome the clean slate.
And my parents’ runner is looking mighty good in the hallway as well. I ordered a maple vent cover on Amazon (click HERE) and hope that it will fit. That brown one was always hidden by the dresser and is looking like a sore thumb now.
I can’t make up my mind where to make the runner end and stick out. What do you like better? I also want to add to the wallhanging to make it hang longer, maybe even all the way to the bottom and the walls also need a fresh coat of paint (I use eggshell Ultra White 7006-24 by Valspar). You can’t see in the photos how banged up and dirty the walls actually are. You’ll just have to believe me that they really are 😉 It won’t stay like this forever, that I know and until then I’ll enjoy the plain view. Oh and if you are wondering where you can find the little cat hole, then you can click HERE and HERE to find them.
Tschüß.

I loved the crosses, but I really love the clean slate too. I am more and more into simple and clean.
Yes simple is good! I crave it lately more and more
i seriously love it- so fresh and bright and open!
Thanks my friend. It feels new and that’s good.
Oh I’m quite sad to see the crosses go because I think they looked amazing but I TOTALLY understand feeling like something is dominating a space and needing a change – they were quite a statement! Loving the fresh new look and it really does open up the space so much more now! Personally, I like the rug sticking out a bit more 😉 Also, loving the kitty door! That is too cute. xxx
Thanks Kimberly. I was somewhat sad too but also ready to let go 😉 I think I like it sticking out more too.
Love the crosses on the wall so much so hated to read that you were getting rid of them. However, I love the end result as much! So fresh and clean! Gives me encouragement to change things I really in my own home! Change is good – we can always go back if we miss it!
That’s what I thought too. I could always put the stickers back on but I really like the clean feeling now.
I loved the crosses but I really like the clean slate you have now! It always feels like clearing out time to me after the holidays. I tend to have claustrophobia with so much “stuff” around. I like the rug as it is in the last photo, ending at the junction of the entry hall and the other area. The wall hanging is beautiful! Guess I missed it somehow. I love the one in the middle photo above also.
Change is good! 🙂

Thanks Pat, yes I think the urge to clear out stuff after Christmas because you’ve had so much stuff around is very common 😉
Exceptional work!

Julia whatever you do always looks so great! I loved the crosses too, but the new look is wonderful too. You have an unbelievable talent and it’s always a joy to see what you create next! Thank you for sharing..????

I sure did love that cross hallway, but the fresh look is nice too! Thank for the kitty hole link!
