Plans around the house
How was your weekend? Cold? Warm? We had snow in April and it was freezing. Thankfully it didn’t stick to the ground.
And since I mentioned it being so cold, I’ve been waiting for painting weather. The type of weather where I can either leave my windows open so I can finally finish our stairs (click HERE if you missed it) or so I could tackle another dresser makeover in the garage or paint our concrete front porch.
Yes, I want to paint our tiny concrete front porch. I’m thinking either beige and white stripes to match our siding and windows or in true Julia fashion good old black and white stripes. I wanted to do a stenciled black and white pattern first but I know concrete paint will chip and that would be too hard to patch and touch up once that happens. Also the concrete paint I’m thinking about using is really thick and I’m lucky enough if it works out for the stripes.
So I know my initial instinct is to go bold but I also want it to somewhat go with the rest of the neighborhood.
Look at what Ellen at Black and White And Loved All Over did to her porch. That’s exactly what I’m talking about:
See how the dark stripe matches the siding and the white the window and door trim? If that floor would be black and white it would maybe stick out too much.
{UPDAT: I painted the porch and you can see the results by clicking HERE}
So lets talk about the dresser project I want to tackle.
My dining room sideboard has been bugging me for a really long time. I do love dark wood but I hate how it shows dust at all times, even right after I wiped it. So ever since I painted this smaller dresser years ago for my Etsy shop:
And the photo was taken in the same spot as my sideboard. I can’t stop thinking about possibly painting it in a light pink blush tone. Don’t worry about the husband he doesn’t really care.
So last week I was checking out colors and one of the below barely pinks/blushes will make the cut. I’m super excited about this one but need the weather to come around so I can paint in the garage.
Here is the sideboard again. And for those of you who are ready to cry at the thought of painting this…it’s not solid wood. It’s a cheap MDF composite. I never regretted making over it’s matching counterpart which you can find HERE. In that old post you can see in what bad shape they actually are.
{UPDATE: I painted the dresser and you can see the results HERE}
I have the feeling that I will be putting off the stairs threads until “who knows when” because I’m so much more excited about making over the dresser and porch than the stairs and they actually don’t look that bad as is. Don’t you think so? (Click HERE to see the first part of the stair project).
Oh and I bought something else for the bathroom makeover yesterday. How could I resist this cup and soap dispenser? Well I couldn’t because it’s made for me!
Can’t wait to get them.
Short and sweet again for today. Lets hope for warmer painting weather soon so I can tackle my projects.
What have you been up to?

That sounds like some really great projects you have coming up 🙂 Love those subtle pinks and that soap dispenser and cup are so pretty.
Thanks Katja, I can’t wait for painting weather.
Fun projects! And, yes, the soap dispenser and cup are so totally YOU, you had to have them 😉
I totally did 😉
Great idea for the porch! It will be perfect!
The dresser will be outstanding and so, so pretty.

I just ordered the paint. I’m excited.
love the art above the sideboard. where would i look to find something by the same artist?
She appears to have an Etsy shop (HERE). This one is Cherries and Canaries by Lynn Hays.
I am excited for and with you about your porch and sideboard fix up. I too will be painting my curved sidewalk that runs from my driveway to the front door. I already spray painted my front stoop in the shapes of large stones. I used that form from HD to form concrete stones. It has held up very well. I would like to ask you if you think it would be too much to do a brick pattern on my curved sidewalk? Thank you!
Glad it held up for you! A brick pattern also might be a bit too much.
I’ll be following closely! The sideboard is on my list too, though I don’t think I’ll be able to do that myself!
Oh sure you can Esther! It’s fun
Love the idea of the stripes on the front porch. I can’t picture your front porch at all – have you shared it on the blog? Also, that bathroom set is perfectly you.
Oh I’ve got a stair project in the works too! Well, I say I do. so far all I’ve done is investigate what I’m dealing with by taking off a rubber mat that was glued to each step. Its gonna be a doozy of a job. I’m heading over now to see what you’ve done to yours so far.

It’s a bi annoying job for sure but so much better when it’s done.
I was wondering if you could share the paint colors. I’m looking to paint a dresser a soft blush or pink for my granddaughter. Your dresser looks beautiful and I think the stripes will be amazing.
Hi Barbara, I sure will share the color that I chose for the sideboard. The one on the other dresser is a mix that I made myself so I can’t share it. Sorry about that.
Oh my gosh, I’d start painting that buffet ASAP, love the colors!! The H&M pieces are so good!
Haha, I can’t wait to paint it. Just started to clear out the garage from winter junk, so I can start painting it.
Oh I spied those cute soap dispensers on H&M the other day! WANT!! Love all your plans and a big yes to blush pink!! xxx
They’d be perfect for you too.
Hi Julia,

OH YES! That blush color is going to be absolutely incredible! Wishing warmer weather your way so you can get started – I can’t wait to see!!!
Oh my goodness, I need that soap dispenser for my powder bath makeover! How cute! And, I think the subtle stripe would look beautiful on your porch. Black and white would be fun for your patio!
