On My Mind Monday – Tiles
What did y’all do this weekend?
I caught up on some behind the scenes computer work. You have no idea how much work is involved computer wise. It drives me crazy at times.
I also watched my kiddos play soccer and got some major TLC in with my poor sick and old Harry-cat. His situation brakes my heart. I wish he would just peacefully fall asleep and never wake up but that’s not reality and I’m having such a hard time dealing with it. I can’t even type this without breaking into tears. Ugh!
On a lighter note (this is always what distracts me), like the headline already mentioned, I have been thinking about backsplash tiles for the kitchen. The new microwave was installed. Unfortunately minus being vented outside, since the stupid builder decided to run a heating vent directly behind the stove. Thanks a lot.
But since the microwave is finally in, I can start thinking about my final decision on the tile.
Do you remember that I was completely sure about the white marble subway tile? But still not sure what to do around the window.
Theses are the “Natural Stone Polished Venatino 3×6 inch subway tiles” from Lowes |
Well, yes I was sure until I saw an Instagram photo from Centsational Girl. Here it is:
I’m so obsessed with this tile. I love the interest that this pattern creates. Don’t you think so?
The company is “New Ravenna” and I’m sure the price is out of my reach. I couldn’t even find this pattern online anywhere!
They have the most stunning tiles and patterns. Check this out:

They have such amazing tiles and I had to force myself to stop looking at them because I’d only end up mad and frustrated because I can’t afford it. You know what I mean?
Back to the plain stuff again. 🙁 Here are the other options that I liked. I certainly love being able to get samples in a local store instead of ordering tiles online.
They actually look like ice cubes and are pretty cool! |
These tiles would look great in combination with the larger “Studio White Glass Wall Tiles” from Lowes.
Ig I do tile then I’m still going for the all white kitchen because I love to change my colors often and this way I’m able to do that. Splashes of colors in accessories is the way I like to roll. And I’m also a huge fan of white like I have said so many times.
Staying within that textured white theme, I’d like to show you a few more options:

My friend went with this tile as her kitchen backsplash (she has a darker countertop) and it looks beautiful but I don’t want to do the same as her:
SomerTile 12.5×12.5-in Morocco White Porcelain Mosaic Tile |
The hexagon tiles would echo my honeycomb light fixture:

Or smaller in a pretty mint green, BUT I’M GETTING SIDETRACKED AGAIN:

And then there is part of me that just wants to go very bold with these cement tiles from Overstock.
Aren’t they so cool? 😉

I could picture them as a kitchen or bathroom floor as well. So stunning and visual!
Overstock is a really great source for affordable tiles and I’m still undecided.
That “New Ravenna” tile messed all my plans up.
That “New Ravenna” tile messed all my plans up.
Decisions, decisions, decisions…..hm! I’m also considering to just paint the wall behind the counter and live with it a little that way. Maybe things will look different after the summer. It’s sometimes good to just wait. And to be honest, I don’t feel like doing indoor projects right now, I’d rather be working in my garage on furniture or outside in my garden.
Tschüß
I love all the tiles you posted and I agree with you, if you’re prone to change your colors (like I am) a white kitchen is the best way to go!!!
Also, having moved into Stone House Lane a year ago, I can tell you after living with some of our initial decisions, I’m changing things. It’s amazing how living with something can help you to know what you really want/need in a space!
And your kitty…I missed it. What’s wrong??? I’m so so sorry. I will pray for Harry-cat that he would be pain free and peaceful…and for you sweetie. sending love xo
Thanks Robin and the prayers are much needed!
I have a friend who is a tile guy. He said he won’t even accept work that involves the glass tiles. They are hard to put up and he said they are hard to maintain and can chip easily. Hope that helps narrow the field a bit for you.
On another note, my elderly pug is sick too, I feel your pain. It is so hard with pets because they are so helpless when they get sick. I was praying the same thing last week, I want her to go in her sleep because I can’t bear to hold another pet while they “go to sleep”.
Tile is so hard to decide on because it is such a pain to change out!!! I like all the ones you showed! I do see what you mean about the instagram photo one though – it is gorgeous! Jenna @ Rain on a Tin Roof
I agree, it’s a paint to change out tile and that’s why I’ll probably end up leaving drywall for now.
i love timeless white…. but a fun pattern would be super cool! i am always drawn to the pretty colors, but prone to changing my mind and tle is not something i’d want to change!
Agree, I don’t want to change out tile!
I love the hex tiles. Love love love the green one, but I would choose white (timeless and bright). That Ravenna tile is gorgeous. I would totally put it in my house…on someone else’s budget of course. =)
Yup unfortunately someone else’s budget 🙁
The hexagons would fit really good to your lamp, definitely! They look great. And white is always a good choice!
I, personally, love these octagonal “Sausalito” tiles, but I would love them even more if the smaller, inside tiles would be black. My parents had those before they renovated their kitchen, and I loved them…
Love, Midsommarflicka
The Sausalito tiles are pretty too.
I find tiles so challenging! It’s hard to imagine what a whole backsplash will look like from a 12×12 square, isn’t it? I think any choice you pick will work – but if it was me I’d probably stick with white or neutral.
Yup, it’s hard. I agree.
I love the colorful narrow vertical tiles. I saw that photo on instagram and thought it was wallpaper! It would be stunning in tile. I love the all white look though too and especially love the all white in the more interesting shapes and layout. It is a hard one! You gotta love your kitchen so much! It seems like that is where I am 90% of the time!
Good luck. You will pick a winner!
Laura
Yes, I spend a lot of time in the kitchen too!
There are so, so many options….take a break. Do the Morning Test but over time. Enter the space with new “eyes” for awhile and get the right “feel”.
That’s what I’ll do!
I would be happy with any of them. So pretty! I really love the white, though. A simpler pattern would make it easier to decorate.
A simpler pattern is also not as busy.
I really like those Moroccan tiles, even if they are the same as your friend! And that one from CG is gorgeous!
The Moroccan tile look stunning in her kitchen!
Sehen alle gut aus!
ich könnte mich nicht entscheiden;)
Fielen Dank *verbeug* mal sehen, was draus wird;)
Viel Glück!
Haha, that doesn’t help 😉 JK
Oh my those New Ravenna tiles are GORGEOUS! I was looking back at your kitchen photos and I can’t decide either. I really like the marble tile you have there now, the glass ones, and the simple hex tiles. I’m sure whatever you choose will be amazing!
I really love the glass tiles from Lowes!! Like love and I think they would look so good with your Quartz counters…..they would both sparkle in a oh so pretty way!
Tough choices! I love the hexagon tiles in white along with the Moroccan, curvy tiles.
I know you liked the Moroccan for your kitchen too.
Recently ordered the Moroccan tiles for our kitchen remodel, can’t wait until they arrive!
