On My Mind Monday – Kitschy Decor
Did you have a hot weekend like us? Jeesh it was a scorcher and not just for the end of May! It was a hot, hot summer weekend! But I did get a little furniture painting done, not much though.
I’ve been wanting to share with you the oddities (not comparable to the show which my son loves by the way) I found on our vacation in Virginia. It’s just that they are certainly not everyone’s cup of tea but I have been drawn to some really strange stuff lately.
First off I want to share with you the painting by numbers. It has been on my mind before I have seen paint by numbers gallery walls on Pinterest. There’s just something oddly nostalgic that draws me to them. I was one of those kids sitting at my desk painting art projects by numbers and feeling like a really cool artist while doing so. And when I come across those particular art walls on Pinterest, I can’t help myself but love them. Is there any great artistic value in them? NO…but there is a certain charm that I can’t resist.
Check out my Pinterest board by clicking HERE! And if you aren’t a follower yet, then maybe you can become one? 😉
And those wall murals are so cool too aren’t they?
Now here is what I found at Goodwill:
I don’t have room for them at all, but couldn’t leave them behind either. I was even contemplating redoing the kids bathroom. And I would paint the wooden frames white, sorry, y’all know how much I love white and to me that would bring out the colors even more.
To stay with the kitschy, cheesy theme I purchased a vintage ceramic deer as well for $2. You might have seen my gnome and apple and the story/meaning behind it (click HERE to read up about it).
It’s totally cheesy, I think I have been hanging out with my 6 year old for too long, but can’t you just imagine snow white loving this deer? I know my friends in Virginia just gave me this strange look when I ran for this deer but I couldn’t help myself.
I have been craving this quirky and strange stuff around my house lately, someone stop me please.
I also found some more of these plain brass candle holders that I love:
Thanks my friend!
I’m all about the strange and kitschy…the paint by numbers reminds me so much of my grandmother’s house…they are going to look great with white frames! I kind of feel you have to have at least one kitschy thing in a room to make it really interesting! 😉 Jesse @ Scout & Nimble
Totally agree with you on having one kitschy item in every room. It adds some humor, fun and interest. I have more than one though LOL
Danke Julia;)
Kitschig is guuut;))
i think i am rubbing off on you…. i love quirky vintage deer. i have a bunch. i finally started putting some in the barn because i was hoarding too many. i was creating my own little cult of deer.
I have lots of deer too but this is my first vintage kitschy deer. Maybe it really is your fault! 🙂
Fun finds! I can’t leave stuff behind either, so I would have definitely bought all four pictures as well. =)
I’ve loved paint by numbers sets for years, I totally understand and with white frames, they will really look awesome! I have not been to a Goodwill lately, today might have to be the day since I don’t have a heavy work day..
I think it’s great to have unique pieces in your home that you love and that speak to you!
I seriously think paint by numbers must be a US thing, I have never spied one in a thrift shop here – but would like to…and the deer, don’t even get me started, it’s adorable! Good finds!
I love all your cute finds, Julia. Especially the deer. (I don’t think any of it is strange–maybe because I like a little kitschy fun, too!)
these are cute, love your finds Julia! I don’t think it’s strange! 🙂 OK! I really like the deer but I love these quirky things! 🙂 & I wouldn’t be able to leave without those wall murals either if I would’ve spotted them! 🙂
I love it. I also got a paint by number…for my birthday. I will have to post about it. It’s in my Mexican themed vintage trailer. Thanks for sharing!
The little dear is darling, made me think of bambi! 🙂 The paint by numbers artwork would be so cute in a bathroom….
Those candle holders are AMAZING! I’m so in love with them!!
Quirky is fun. Everyone needs some whimsy!
I love the paint by numbers and could absoutely see them in white frames against some stripes or geometric pattern in the kiddos bathroom! 🙂
Really like the candle holders. I would probably paint the rain deer.

I have been looking for paint-by-numbers just like that for forEVER! What a score! I love seeing people decorate with whimsy. So refreshing! 🙂
I’d snatch that tray from you, the minute you weren’t looking and would run…das Arrangement ist so schön!! And without a little kitschy touch my home ( any home ) isn’t complete, I think.
Katrin
P.S.: just kidding you know that, right? Ich guck halt immer genau hin bei dir, es lohnt sich nämlich so!
Katrin
Yes, I know you are kidding LOL, aber da steht ens at noch en Appel den man auf dem Bild janicht sehen kann 😉 LG Julia
