This is a very easy and fast pillow update of some old plain striped Ikea pillows I had stashed away.
- fabric paint (or acrylic paint and fabric medium)
- paint brushes
- painters tape
- striped pillows (or plain white pillow and you paint stripes yourself)
- fabric marker pens (any brand will do)
- a cut Kilim shape
Here are the old pillows but you could really use any type of striped pillows. The irregular striped pattern is what makes them interesting.
Make sure that the pillows have been washed if they are brand-new.
I decided on a more graphic approach to the Kilim/Tribal design since I didn’t want to get into too much detail and keep it easy and simple.
I taped off some stripes to change them to a color that I mixed myself with fabric medium and acrylic paint (according to the fabric medium’s instruction label) but you could just buy any pre-mixed fabric paint.
I painted on the stripes.
Then I used some fabric markers in red and black to draw in some thin lines with a ruler.
For one of the pillows I made a pattern that you can find in certain Kilim patterns. Please see the image below.
I traced that and filled it in.
But I also added some plain triangles to one of the pillows.
After the pillows dried I heat set them with my iron which is usually recommended.
And voila, you got yourself some new pillows.
The black and white pillow in the background was painted too according to this tutorial HERE.
