My son’s lamp makeover
Guess what? I went to Ikea yesterday and it seems that every time I go there with a purpose they don’t have what I want. Darn it! I wanted to go to get two Koppang dressers to use at nightstands next to our king size bed. With a little makeover that dresser would work out great. Maybe it was meant to be unavailable and I will find two matching dressers on Craigslist finally.

I also wanted to get some yards of TRÅDKLÖVER fabric.

But noooooo…come on…all sold out for now! Ugh!
And since I was frustrated I headed over to West Elm but behaved myself and didn’t buy anything. I really wish that their golden silverware wouldn’t be so pricey. I want it so badly. But $29 for a table setting of 5 is out of my price range. We need that times 8, that’s not happening.

I know that I promised another furniture makeover for today but it’s just not ready yet.
So I’m going to show you just another small makeover. I’ve actually gotten several questions about the lamp that is attached to my sons bed and in this post I want to explain where it is from and what I did.
Here it is again:

Wow, way to repurpose that lamp! It looked kind of junky before but looks totally luxe now.
Thanks, it was junky before and I almost threw it out a couple times already 😉
love where you are using the lamp; attached to your son’s bed! funny Julia but the Ikea Koppang dressers, I am using those as nightstands as well on each side of our king size bed! 🙂 they are great, I never got a chance to get any nightstand tables and I was using a desk before, then the desk went to my craft room, so that’s why I am using these as nightstands! 🙂
I hope they’ll get them back in stock soon!
what a difference! rub n buff is the best!!!
I’ve had a love and hate relationship with RubNbuff but this time it worked.
Ugh, that sucks that Ikea didn’t have your stuff…how annoying. But maybe it’s a good excuse to just go and eat Ikea ice cream???
LOL, that’s exactly what I did. I ate ice cream! I’m even more obsessed with their french fries. But I reasoned myself out of it this time and stuck with the frozen non-fat ice cream 😉
Thanks for using AMACO’s Rub ‘n Buff. I know sometimes it takes a little practice. It is designed to work on a porous surface, so if you want to apply it to something that’s slick, you might want to sand the object first with a very fine grit sandpaper for better adhesion of the RNB product.
We have a Facebook book – Rub ‘n Buff Metallic Finishes – check it out for more ideas for people like yourself.
Thanks so much for the tip and for coming over to my blog. You made my day!
I have been a Rub’n Buff fan for many years. I too have had some failures. Now I know why! Wow to hear from Amaco with that advise is priceless.
I know right? I think that’s awesome too.
Rub ‘n buff is so weird how it sticks to some things and not others. It looks great though!
I’m jealous that you have an Ikea close! =) I’m loving the idea of those dressers as nightstands. Hopefully, something great will turn up soon.
UGH. I covet that gold silverware every time I’m in there but I just can’t justify the price!!! And thanks for the info about Rub n Buff, I will definitely be trying that out on a project soon! 🙂
Love how that turned out. It may not be silverware but at least you got a little gold in your life, right?
I’m sorry your Ikea trip didn’t work out as planned! What a bummer! I hope something amazing pops up on CL for you ASAP! 🙂
PS-That silverware is amazing!!!
What a great project ~ it turned out so great! And yes on the gold silverware!!!
I’ve had my eye out for a matching pair of dressers to use as nightstands, too. I forgot about Ikea. (Yes, their furniture lends itself to some creative makeovers. I’ll have to check them out.)
Good luck with finding some dressers you love! And great idea for your son’s lamp. It goes well with that lovely bed!
Wow, the lamp looks great! At first I missed it, but then scrolled back up and saw that gold beauty. I am loving gold lately. Thanks for linking up to Frugalicious Friday every week!
Yep, that silveware is on my list too. I keep hoping I’ll walk into Goodwill and see a beautiful vintage set there waiting for me 🙂
