Living Pretty With Your Pets: Monica Wants It
Happy Friday my friends and I have another post for you pet series fans. I want to introduce you to Monica of Monica Wants It. Her little furry guy Pee Wee stole my heart and I think you will love him too.
Hi everyone, it’s Monica from Monica Wants It! My blog started as a place dedicated to all the random things I wanted to buy after I got married to Daniel in 2009. Overpriced measuring cups from Anthropologie was one of my first posts about something I wanted…I’m so happy I didn’t buy those measuring cups in hindsight. Eventually the blog morphed into a DIY, home décor, lifestyle blog and Pee Wee (or his dog hair) almost always make an appearance.
Pee Wee came into our lives in fall 2005 (I was only 20 years old…those were the days!) when he was about 6-8 weeks old, and I couldn’t imagine life without him. He’s my best friend and blogging sidekick.
Originally he was intended for Daniel’s younger brother and sister, but Daniel took care of Pee Wee during those early puppy days and they became quite inseparable. Once I graduated college in 2006 and moved to be with them, we became a happy family of 3 and have been that way ever since.
I am so lucky that Pee Wee actually truly loves being in front of the camera. When he sees me staging a shoot for the blog, he immediately comes over for his close-up. I think the reason Pee Wee loves being in front of the camera is that our home was designed with him in mind. There’s dog beds, blankets, and an open spot for him in every room in our home.
Here are some of Pee Wee’s favorite spots in our home.
The master bedroom: Pee Wee loves this spot the most since he sleeps with us in bed each night. It’s heaven during the winter because he’s so warm!
We also have a huge comfy chair in the master bedroom, and he enjoys hopping up there, too.
The dining room: There’s a sitting area where Pee Wee likes to lounge on weekends while we’re in the adjacent kitchen. He can look out the window and bark at birds, squirrels and UPS drivers.
Pee Wee also really loves rugs, so when we ripped out the wall-to-wall carpet in our home, we had to invest in rugs so he could have places to lay on. It’s so funny watching him eat because he puts a few kernels of dog food in his mouth and runs to the nearest rug to eat.
The guest room: Pee Wee’s crate is in here so he can watch Food Network while we’re at work, so he’s grown to love the guest room bed and chair.
Back patio: Pee Wee loves to sunbathe in the backyard, but when he needs some shade he’ll walk over to the back patio to lounge on the outdoor sofa. There’s no shortage of places for this dog to lounge on in our home.
Living room: But more than anything, Pee Wee loves to be in the living room at Christmas. We started an annual Christmas portrait tradition when we got him. Here’s his first Christmas.
And here’s him in 2015. My photography skills have greatly improved over the past decade, right?
He’s perfected looking regal, poised and timeless in his annual pet portrait. I can’t wait to see what we end up doing this year. Pee Wee knows when he sees the black sash it’s time for holiday portraits.
All of our furniture has a constant stream of dog hair, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. We have invested in so many throw blankets so Pee Wee always has a soft place to lay and cuddle with us during our Netflix binges. Plus, we have two Roombas to keep up with dog hair on our dark floors.
Having Pee Wee in my life has been the ultimate honor. He’s been by my side as I graduated from college, got married, got my first real job, bought a house, got a new job, etc. He watches TV with Daniel and I, is the best companion during road trips, loves naps as much as I do, keeps me company during all things blogging related, and comforts me during my good and bad days.
He means everything to me, and I am so blessed to have the unconditional love, cuddles, and licks from my sweet 11 year old Pee Wee. Even though he’s getting up there in age, he’s still as feisty as ever, and I look forward to making more memories with the best dog in the world.
I hope you enjoyed learning about my lovely dog Pee Wee! He and I both invite you to come check out the blog. Right now we’re in the midst of prepping to sell our house (where Daniel and Pee Wee will live for now), and I’m moving into an apartment by my lonesome to start a new job. I’ll be chronicling how we’re decorating the house to sell, while I’m also decorating my rental. It’ll be heartbreaking to not see my boys every day, but hopefully the house sells soon and we’ll all be together again. For now, I’ll enjoy them on weekends.
Thanks to Julia for having me, and remember to adopt not shop! Xo.
Isn’t Pee Wee just the absolute cutest little guy? That’s exactly the size of dog I’d love to have. I love all his poses and how loved he is at home.

peewee is ADORABLE!!! love him!!! and monica has such a great glam look i love!
I love him too
ahahahaha my dog does the same thing, she’ll pick some food up and walk over to the rug and eat it. and it’s like REALLY? come on? but generally she knows to eat it on her own blanket. this is such an adorable story about peewee!
My cats do the same thing. Such an odd little habit. Even though it’s a little annoying it’s still cute.
OMG – He is the cutest little guy. Looks like he rules the house!
LOL, yes he looks like the boss
We have a sweet Boxer who loves to snuggle on the couch. That breed sheds really bad. I want to have my sofa recovered, any suggestions on the type fabric that would clean easily.
Oh that’s a tough one. Our family has always stuck to leather for our furniture. I do have the two microfiber chairs and the hair gets stuck on them a lot but they are very easy to vacuum. Sorry that I’m not more of a help here. Good luck Phyllis.
Pee Wee is the cutest, most photogenic dog ever!
LOL yes he is
Love it Monica! Pee Wee is adorable! and your home style, as always, is on point!
Thank you SO MUCH for having Pee Wee and I participate in this fun series. I can’t imagine having a home without a pet – they bring so much joy, laughter and love into a home. I appreciate you showcasing how it’s possible to live pretty with pets. This was a fun post to write, and I can’t thank you enough for inviting me to partake. xo.
Thanks so much for telling us your story
