  1. Wow, such a bittersweet story! My Furby is 14 and I know that day will come but still try not to think of it yet. Both of these dogs are beautiful! And, I don’t know Amy so I’m definitely going to go check her blog out. Thanks for the intro!

  2. i love this column living pretty with your pets. so much of a home is about the relationship and synergy between animals and the space that we collectively share and live in together. animals are the best. i love the dedicated protected kitty area you created in your garden too. i think that alone should quadruple the value of your house.

    1. Thanks so much Kathy and I totally agree with you. Animals are the best. I’m glad you like this series. It’s something I’m so passionate about and it’s clearly meant for like minded people ๐Ÿ˜‰

  3. Great tribute to your beloved Misty…and wonderful that you could open your heart to a shelter sweetheart!

  4. i am sitting here in tears yet again! i feel amy’s pain- amy, we lost our beloved dog who was 13 1/2 the day after thanksgiving 2013. i felt all of the emotions you are referring to. ironically, we still have one dog who is, like hitch, a hound mix and the sweetest dog you could meet. wishing you years of happiness with hitch and cherished memories of misty!

  5. What a fantastic post. The love for Misty is so evident and huge ((((hugs)))) on your loss.

  6. We had to say good-bye to Sophie on Feb. 28th. Our story is the same as yours, I thought she would always be there and could not imagine her gone as she was such a fixture in our home. I was there for her last labored breathe and swore that the one dog at home was going to stay an “only child” for awhile. I also do fostering for a rescue, so I thought It would make sense to leave a “slot” open for another foster.
My husband, however, had other ideas. ONE WEEK later, he and my son drove 4 hours away to bring home another pug. Tia is 12 weeks now and a handful, but I think Sophie would be happy with our choice. We had Sophia cremated and she sits on the dresser in our bedroom so she can hang out with the other pups.

    1. I’m so so sorry about Sophie!! It is heart braking but I’m so glad you were able to open your hearts for another family addition. So sweet.

  7. Awwww such cute babies! Misty reminded me of my new pup Molly with her gorgeous eyes! Animals are such a special part of the family. I can not imagine what I will go through when we have to say goodbye to one of our babies.

  8. I cried through all but the first paragraph…. but so happy you did not wait long to adopt another fur baby. I truly believe kids that grow up with fur babies, have a big advantage over those that have not had such a blessed opportunity.

  9. aww….so sad to read about Misty, but so glad something wonderful came of it with your new pup. There’s nothing sweeter than a hound dog! Thanks for sharing.

  10. Bless your heart Amy! We had our lab for 14 years as well. I’m so glad you found another fur baby that you and your family love!

  11. What a great story of love. Losing a pet is the hardest thing ever, but so glad that your family and Jake found each other! xo
