Living Pretty with Your Pets: Up to Date Interiors
Today for pet series Friday I have another adorable mutt for you. You guys know that I have a special place in my heart for rescued mixed breeds, right?
And today I have Kathy and Misha of Up to Date Interiors and I’m excited for you to meet them and hear their story.
Hi there! I’m so excited to be visiting Cuckoo 4 Design today. Julia’s blog has been a long time favorite of mine and now that we are friends, I’m just head over heels happy. I’m Kathy and my blog is Up to Date Interiors. I write a lot of posts about rental decorating tips, diy projects, and design inspiration.
All of our house pictures on the blog are of our NC coastal rental but we just made an exciting move to Japan. Yep! Okinawa to be exact. The only sad part about our move is that our dog, Misha, is still in quarantine.
Here’s Misha’s story (this has a happy ending!)…
Six years ago when my husband and I bought our first home together with our 3 yr old son, we decided to adopt a puppy from the ASPCA. As soon as we saw Misha, who’s ears were bigger than her head at 6 weeks old, we knew she was the one. We were told she is a mix of lab and huskey but she is too small to be that. She’s our mystery pup!
Misha has been the perfect little dog for our family. To this day, she doesn’t run from us or leave the yard. We now have two children and they have put their hands in her food bowl and in her mouth while she was eating and she has never even nipped.
Here’s a little of what Misha enjoys doing…
While I’m blogging, you can usually find her squirrel watching at the window.
She also likes to play with her favorite stuffed toy, the FOX.
On lazy afternoons, Misha naps in our room. She isn’t allowed on furniture but sometimes she sneaks onto the couch while we are sleeping.
While we lived in coastal North Carolina, we spend a lot of time at the beach.
She is one happy pup at the beach, in the water, and sun-bathing!
Misha’s favorite pastime with the kids and hubby is playing fetch. If you tell her to go get her toy, she’ll find the frisbee or ball and bring it back to you. Even if she hasn’t seen it for a few days.
When my husband received orders for Japan, we knew that leaving Misha behind wasn’t even an option.
She made the 16 hour trip with us but has to remain on government property to finish her quarantine. We found a cute Okinawan rental out in town with a good size yard and ocean views. We just can’t wait to have our dog join us again. She is staying with a pet sitter and has a new friend to play with. It’s much better than her staying at a kennel but we still miss her. She has three weeks left and we visit as often as we can!
Pretty soon we’ll be taking her to the beach here!

Kathy is living my son’s dream I think because he wants to spend some major time in Japan too and eat the food. He’s told me that many time and I’m glad he shares my love for Asian food of any kind.
Isn’t Misha adorable? I’m so glad they took her with them and I can’t wait for them to get reunited after her quarantine.
I’m also looking forward to seeing how Kathy will decorate their adorable rental.
An apartment with ocean view? Yes please!
Have a great weekend my friends.

Thanks for having me Julia!! Have a great weekend.
Love having you guys and have a great weekend too.
Thank God you did not leave Misha behind!!!! I look forward to seeing your rental decor.
What an interesting story. My son and his wife live in Japan…and have really enjoyed their stay there. They go to many festivals, and have been to quite a few cities. They’ve even climbed Mt. Fuji! I hope your son makes it there…I’m sure he would enjoy it! 😉
I’m sure he would love it too 😉 and I would too
aaaaw, misha is so sweet! it has to be so hard being away from her!
All 3 of your babies look so happy! My family moved to Japan too and had to leave our beloved Char for quarantine and it was rough. We missed him so much. We weren’t as lucky as you and went from a place with a yard to an apartment but he was so happy living with us there so I’m glad you’re taking him with you! The food there is amazing and I’m so jealous of all the delicious things you will be enjoying. I recommend trying out a ramen burger. Yummmm
Did I hear Ramen burger??? That sounds so good. My son is obsessed with Ramen 😉
