LED grow lights
(This is not a sponsored post but I was provided with the lights and as always all opinions are 100% my own!)
I’m not only striving to be a great cat mom but I’m also trying to improve being a good plant mom. I’ve been doing ok but have certain spots in my house where I love having a plant but they just don’t appear to be doing so well in the spots that I want them to live.
You guys remember my bedroom update from last year (click HERE if you missed it). I could cry now when I look at my once beautiful bird of paradise. It looks awful and I don’t want that to happen to my other plants.
Once upon a time, that bird of paradise lived in our living room corner where it didn’t do so well but after a patio vacation quickly grew to the above huge size and was much happier outside than indoors. We live on the east coast though and have to bring them all inside for the winter.
I would love to keep a plant happy in that corner of the living room all year round though because without one it looks so bare. That corner is far from an ideal spot for plants. The sun only comes in a little in the morning and then wanders over the house to the front.
The below larger parlor palm isn’t looking happy anymore either.
You can’t imagine that corner without a plant, can you? This is why I started to think about adding LED grow lights to our home.

Soooo, my friends, I was thrilled to find out that Soltech LED grow lights are actually made and sold locally in Bethlehem PA. I can drive to their location in 20 minutes if I had to.
But the most important part is that the Soltech LED grow lights look beautiful and are easy to hang.
Why use a LED grow light
Well, I mentioned above already why I wanted to add one to our home which is obvious but there are reasons why you should choose LED grow lights versus other grow light options.
I don’t want to get too teachy either and am going to keep it short. You can read the more teachnical specifications on their website.
The Aspect LED grow lights use about the same amount of power as a traditional blue/red grow light and about a third of the power as a CFL light to achieve the same amount of PAR light which also makes them extremely energy efficient. Another LED grow lights plus is that they give off very little heat.
The light isn’t too bright to make you feel like you are sitting on a lit stage which I would really dislike. It is a warm light that illuminates our living room throughout the day and especially on gloomy days I feel like the sun is shining.
If you have the same problem as me where you want to have a plant in a spot that is less than ideal for it, then you should definitely consider getting a LED grow light for your own home.
How to hang your LED grow light
Items needed:
- I have the large white matte Aspect LED grow light (comes with a timer and smaller hooks but I used the swag hook HERE and wall fairlead HERE to mount my lights)
- hammer
- self-drilling plastic anchors (HERE)
- Phillips screwdriver
- pen, string, and weight (I used a paint can opener but you can use whatever you want)
(If you don’t want to swag it they are also selling hardwired versions which you can find HERE.)
What to do:
It’s super easy I promise:
I added a pen to a string and the weight to the other side. Then I placed that contraption over the plant to determine where I wanted the swag hook to be. It was very easy to mark the ceiling with the pen this way.
I made a little video so you can see what I’m talking about. (And I put myself on a diet after I saw my winter double chin in the video LOL)
Next, take your stud finder to determine if you need an anchor or can screw the swag hook straight into the ceiling. In my case, I needed an anchor as you can see in the video.
I love the sleek look and warm glow the light creates.
How close should grow light be to plants
Every plant is different and each light comes with a timer, list of plants and the distance you should hang your light. You can also find that list by clicking HERE. I have a parlor palm and hung my large LED grow light around 48 – 60 inches away from the plant.

Tschüß,
So cool! I have a black thumb but my husband loves to garden so I will show him this since our house is a disaster for live plants. Thank you!
such a great thing to have! our home faces west so the sun shines on the back of the house from morning to mid day then switches to the front of the house- i should get some of these to help!
Soltech LED lights, will the electricity bill be higher?
