I’ve been painting
With the patio style challenge finally submitted, I feel like I can breath a little bit better and I just need to do something a little more relaxing. Painting on canvas has filled that void. I used to paint a lot when I was younger but it’s been on the back burner since moving into a house, kids and blog DIYing. And now that I started doing it a little more again, I think I have to say that I’m addicted again.
There is nothing better than creating abstract art to me. You can just go by whatever mood you are in and it doesn’t have to be precise or even according to plan. That’s what I find relaxing about it.
So today I thought I’d share with you some of the recent pieces.
I definitely can’t deny the Britt Bass inspiration in the next painting but it’s not a copy:
And if you’ve been following me for a while then you already know this following one that I painted a while ago
(you can read more about the inspiration by clicking HERE):
Or my easy DIY abstract art tutorial which you can read about HERE:
And I just bought a 48″x48″ canvas for our dining room which I’m hoping to have finished for next week’s Blogger Stylin Home Tours Spring Edition. Lets see. I’m a total amateur but it is fun for sure and that’s what it is all about, right?
Have you guys tried to paint a little somethin’ something’? You should give it a try.

Love your paintings,Julia! Painting relaxes me too, wish I have more time!! Xo
I’m making more time for it right now, because I feel it’s just what I need 😉 cooking according to my daughter’s diet stresses me out. Thanks so much Aniko
Totally love them! You should digitalize them and see prints in your Etsy store!
Thanks Ashley, maybe I should really consider doing it. I don’t know
I’m totally obsessed with painting right now too! I can’t get enough. I think it’s because I’m not that great at it so I feel like I improve a little every time 🙂
I’m sure you are great at it. What I like is that there is no pressure behind it. That makes it fun
By the way they are beautiful and I love the Brit Bass inspired one!
: thanks 🙂
Julia, you need to sell these in your Etsy shop. I want the one with the blue and gold in it!
Thanks Mary
Julia, those are all amazing! I have my eye on a spot in my living room for an abstract painting, but I know mine would never look that good. Can’t wait to see what else you come up with!
Oh I’m sure yours would turn out fabulous. Thanks so much
julia!!!!!! you are AMAZING!!!!! seriously skilled, my friend.
Thanks Cassie
Beautiful artwork & color combinations! Are you using oil paint?
I love these. You are very talented, and I’m very envious.
I really don’t think you’re an amateur. These are beautiful and you have such a great sense of color.
These are stunning!! I am the same when I’m painting (god I haven’t painted in months and months and now you are making me miss it) – it’s so tranquil and relaxing and I really enjoy the process. And yes, you should seriously think about selling – it doesn’t matter if you aren’t a “professional” – they are gorgeous and people will pay you for your skill in creating something that they don’t have the talent to do themselves 😉 xxx
They are all beautiful. I agree, you should sell them or some others that you can part with.
Do you buy framed canvas, or rolled canvas? With the 48×48 piece, will you paint it on rolled canvas, and then frame it yourself? Where are you purchasing your supplies?
Shellee, right now I buy finished canvas when there are sales at craft stores. When I was a teenager I bought rolled once and made them myself. Right now I’m lazy 😉
SO good!! I miss painting! I hope to set up a painting studio when we’re in our house 🙂
Thanks Sarah, a painting studio would be my dream
Ah I love them all! I need to commission you to do a piece for me!!!
Haha 😉 thanks Amber
Seriously!! These are amazing Julia. You should seriously consider working for commission. No joke.
Thanks my friend. I might consider. Hope you are feeling better today.
Really loving the first few you shared!! I’ve just shared my second in a monthly series on abstract painting how-to’s. I think I’ve enjoyed it more than my readers… so wonderful to just let go and paint! Thanks for sharing these with us.
Thanks Amy, that’s exactly what it is about, to just let go. That’s why I love it
So pretty! I love the one with the pink, navy, and orange!
Thank you
those look so good. whenever i try to paint something, it looks like a child’s project! teach me your ways, lol.
enjoy,
b
Thanks so so much.
Thanks Kristin, I’m planning on making more time for it I think
Amazing, Julia! I recently got a couple of canvases but have been too scared to do anything. What type of paint do you use?
Thanks Darnetha, I use acrylics. I’ve used a lot of oil when I was younger but I love the drying time of acrylics much better.
So pretty Julia, I totally agree with everyone, you’re so talented!! You should offer them for sale!
Julia, you are so talented! I just adore these pieces! I would give just about anything to have you make me the perfect piece for my walls! I love everything you do!
You are such a talented artist. Your style is amazing, and I love how much your art reflects your personality!
I would be first in line for an original, Julia! You are so very talented! Another vote for you to put some of these pieces in your shop. Just beautiful!
I love the pink one with the dots, so beautiful but they all have something special about them. It is great that you are getting back into something you obviously have a talent for!
Gosh your abstract art pieces are incredible! I wish I had half the talent that you have!
Thanks so much Trisha
Heu Julia!
Big fan of your blog! Will you be selling any of your pieces?
Oh thank you so much Lauren. I’m actually looking into getting prints made and/or selling originals but it’s most likely not going to happen until the kids are back in school 😉
