Friday Favorites: modern Rattan and Wicker trend
Thanks so much for all the amazing and supportive comments on my last post (click HERE if you missed it). It really meant the world.
It might not be the right thing to do to follow that post up with a Friday Favorites post but like I already said in my idea house tour, I have been obsessed with finding vintage rattan pieces like they had in the house. I’ve been looking on Craigslist, at estate sale ads and yard sales and of course I looked on google too. But no success yet with the right piece for my space. I would actually love to throw out my Ikea wing chair at some point and maybe replace it with an amazing vintage rattan piece that is comfy because my white cat Lucy is ripping it to shreds right now. It’s the place she sleeps on every day. Rattan might be the perfect solution.
I just read this article HERE about the long history and styles of rattan and whicker which is super interesting if you are into decor trends and where they come from.
I also mentioned on Instagram stories that almost every time I go online, I load up my shopping cart with stuff and then I go to check out and talk myself out of everything I just put in. Sometimes I do buy something but most of the time I don’t.
So today I want to share some of my favorite pieces I found on those search tours. I do write for a bunch of different people online and on social media. So some people actually like these posts while others just get annoyed.

One thing I know for sure is that I’m having this Etsy shop HERE under close watch. She has some amazing vintage pieces. It’s sometimes hard to find the right size and scale for your own home though. It’s usually the biggest problem I have.
I will be looking for names like vintage Shelby Williams Industries or Paul Frankl rattan, maybe someone out there doesn’t know what they have. The prices on 1stDibs (see HERE) are just ridiculously high.
Etsy has some really great vintage pieces too (see HERE) but the price is pretty high too.
And lately I have definitely been completely agains painting rattan and wicker. There was a time where it looked so fresh painted in a fun color or white but I’m kind of really over that look.
After I’ve done all the research I come to the conclusion that none of the rattan and whicker pieces are cheap. Like really none of them…new or old! So if you ever find one for cheap, it’s a steal 😉
Here are some of my new more modern favorites:
1 | 2 (not available anymore) | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | 10
One of my favorite pieces is the rattan crib and the bed. But I don’t wish to have another baby to put into the crib 😉
I also have been really into rattan purses. There is something really nostalgic about them and they also look cute placed in your home. They could be used to store your sewing kit or other craft items that you frequently use. My mom actually uses a similar one to number 8 for her little sewing needs.
Number 5 comes close to the chair I love so much in the show house but I want a larger scaled piece then the one above.
Tschüß,
love all of these picks, especially that pendant!
I want it!
I am seriously kicking myself for getting rid of a lovely rattan mirror a couple of years ago. Had it forever, but couldn’t find a place for it in my last house. Now of course I want it back!
Oh I found one on Craigslist last year. It’s hanging on my porch. I hoard mirrors!
The chairs look so beautiful, but also so uncomfortable!
They both come with cushions. I didn’t use the photo ops the cushions because I wanted to show the entire chair and how pretty it is.
Julia,
Try to look for pieces at affordable price on Letgo
or OfferUp. I found this amazing bamboo swing with
with a brass stand for $80 on Letgo and a Franco Albini
rattan stool on Craigslist also for $80.
I’m on the same page, don’t paint it!!!!! It looks great in
it’s natural color.
Good luck with your search!
Oh ok, I will search there too. What absolutely great finds you made.
Absolutely love these picks Julia! I love wicker and rattan ANYTHING. 🙂
I bought a house with my first husband (built in 1962) from a retired couple. They left their rattan sofa and chair on the back porch. Those pieces were as old as the house. And like an idiot, I replaced them with something new! What was I thinking?! Ugh! ????
Oh no! I’m sure they were gorgeous pieces
They were and of course I wish I had them now! With age comes wisdom. (At least we hope so ????)
I keep seeing wicker and rattan at the thrift store that I ALMOST want for my porch, but that isn’t quite right. I would snatch up a hanging chair like #7 in a second, though!
