I’m getting custom Etsy plates
How was your weekend? My cookie exchange was a success I think. It’s always fun to hang out with the neighborhood ladies over a glass of wine instead of at the bus stop. No kids and good food. Yes please! That makes me think of the Adele remake I just saw online. It’s for stressed moms and so funny. Have you seen it? If not, you can click HERE to see it. That mom is a really good singer too.
This week I’m going to focus on getting our couch into the basement, so I just wanted to share something quickly with you today.
Two Sundays ago I went to the Philadelphia King of Prussia Mall to West Elm, because the artist who makes their Dapper Animal Plates had her first ever popup shop and I really wanted to meet her. You might have seen my photo on Instagram already. I’m a huge fan of her plates and if you are new around here then you might not know that my entire kitchen wall (see more HERE) is covered mostly with her West Elm animal plates.
When I went, I was actually hoping that she brought some of her other plates she makes, but she only brought some of her prints. I also met up with my friend Carrie of Making Lemonade Blog and we chatted with Rachel about her new line at West Elm. Which includes more home and kitchen accessories.
I am slightly obsessed with this little duck brass lamp she designed and I would have totally bought one for my desk but the last one was just snatched up at the store right before I got there. She said there might be another one coming out, so I will wait and see what that one is.
And table top accessories too like this cool fox cake plate:
There are many more items too. She also helped design the new ASPCA line (click HERE) at West Elm which are inspired by some of Instagram’s most famous pets. The items support the ASPCA® they’ll donate $1 to the animal welfare organization per item purchased. I already included the tea towels in my GIFT GUIDE.
But what most people probably don’t know is that Rachel also has her own Etsy shop (click HERE). Beside plates she also sells, cloth clutches, pillows, glasses, bowls, illustrations, Christmas ornaments but most excitingly she also takes custom orders. She had me at custom animal artwork, I tell you that.

This certainly got my wheels turning my friends and when I got home I talked to the kids about it. They were just as excited about getting some plates made of our cats as I was.
So I wrote to her again and asked her to make two plates.
I sent her a photo of Harry and a photo of Monkey. Harry was our 16 year old cat that passed away two years ago of kidney disease and Monkey (around 6 years old) is currently dying of kidney failure.
Rachel gave me a sneak peek over the weekend at King Harry’s plate and allowed me to share it with you guys!!!
We used to call him King Harry because he was just such a manly, regal guy.
Eventually I want to have a plate of every one of our cats. The kids had the best time deciding what each cat should wear on the plates.
You might think the plates are super expensive but they aren’t. I can’t say what they exactly cost because shipping for each customer is different but I can tell you that they are well under $50. Just write her a message if you are interested too by clicking HERE and click on contact under her profile photo.
The illustrations in her shop are previous work that are reproductions. The custom illustrations are original watercolors/mixed media and an 8×10 starts at $100.00. There are various other sizes upon request if you chose so.

So that’s it for today.
Have a great week. I’m not sure how my posting will be from now until after Christmas but I do know that I will have a break somewhere like I have every year. Nobody is reading many blogs anyways around this time, right?

i think this is just the coolest experience ever. first of all, all 3 of you are adorable, second of all… custom plates. that couldn’t be any more perfect for you. the ultimate fan girl gift!
That’s so cool! I really really really love that idea. Can’t wait to see them.
She just showed me both of them last night and I’m floored. Now I want the rest of the cats too.
I love the plates on your kitchen wall. What did you use to hang them. They don’t look like you used plate hangers. The plate hangers I have found would have prongs holding the plates that would show and take away from the beauty of the plates.
Thanks Heather, I don’t like those metal plate hangers either and that’s why I use these hangers here: http://amzn.to/1NR10Ao They are perfect and work great but sometimes I have to use some extra super glue with them to make sure they keep the plates up. Hope that helps and happy holidays.
Oh wow, so many fabulous things to drool over and the plates are amazing. All three of you look amazing too.
I LOVE this idea! I wish I’d known about it a little earlier; I can think of a couple of people this would make a perfect Christmas gift for (uhh….including me, in case anyone out there is looking for present for me for next year ;))
Haha that’s why I just bought them for myself. I couldn’t wait for someone to buy them for me 😉
