A black bathroom for the kids
I can’t really call this a reveal because I had the hardest time photographing this space and I have to figure out how to take a picture of what I did with the window yet. Ha, just realized that this is not a good sentence to open this post but I really wanted to show you what I have done so far. Lets call it a progress report.
In case you missed my DIY towel holder from Monday, then click HERE to see how I made it.
DIY custom Ikea toilet paper holder (click HERE)
And what would a post like this be without a before and after, right?
It was beige boredom with ugly lighting and even beige light switches. I remembered to take a before picture after the mirror was already taken down but you get the idea.
I’m really loving the orange/red spray painted mirror that I have had for so long (click HERE to read more) and that outdoor galvanized light (click HERE) which I spray painted black inside and gold on the outside We all love it.
If the funds would be endless, I would have installed grand molding in this bathroom. Like crown molding thick base molding, new tiles and a vanity but that wasn’t an option for now.
I was able to reuse some things like the above mentioned mirror, the old faucet from our powder room (click HERE to see the new faucet in the powder room). I bought the black outlets, black paint, lighting, shower curtain, new vent cover and materials for the fixtures, which altogether came in around $200 which is a super price for such a dramatic budget makeover, don’t you think so?
Paint colors used:
Hacienda Tile spray paint by Valspar
Dark Kettle Black (4011-2) by Valspar
Now I still want to figure out what to do with the vanity because I’m not that happy with it yet. Lets see because it might take a while. It needs some molding on the bottom.
That’s it for today.

Such a pretty makeover, Julia! I love the black walls and that gorgeous mirror together! I’m super tempted to paint our little powder room black as well!!!
LOVE It!
Last week I removed (ugly) Brown print wallpaper from an interior powder room…painted the walls a beach grey and spray painted a similar mirror hot pink…(I wanted coral but apparently spray paint does not come in that colour). I also painted the vanity another shade of grey ( sound like a novel 🙂
Such an improvement!!
Love it! black walls are so great, no wonder your kids are super happy 🙂
Love it! What a great difference between the before and after! The mirror looks amazing, I really like the contrast of black, red and like the gold detail. Thank you for sharing.

Wow! That mirror is such a show stopper! I could definitely see it for sale in a high end decor catalog.
Wow, that is one chic kid’s bathroom! 🙂
Wow! LOVE IT! Love what you did with the light and that paper holder is just fab.
I have been wanting a similar light in my bath that has those Hollywood lights, maybe someday. I have been dying for that dark sky light fixture for my front door as well. How well does that down light work for putting on make up? And did you do anything to your flooring? Cause I actually like what you have very much (wish I had the same for my main bath. Although I would have to change all the chrome fixtures to gold and can not afford even that much.
I love how this turned out Julia! So much style!!
It’s so dramatic! I absolutely love it.
