Living Pretty With Your Pets: Thrifty Decor Chick
This week I’m having another member of the Haven team and her sweet pets as guests. And once again, if you are a blogger chances are you know who Sarah the Thrifty Decor Chick is. Whether you do or not her story is sweet regardless.
Hello there, and thank you so much to Julia for having me today! I’m Sarah and I blog at Thrifty Decor Chick about DIY and decor that doesn’t break the bank. It’s an honor to be here bragging on our animals – we like to talk about them. 😉
We have three cats and a dog and I’ve been an animal person my entire life. I honestly can’t remember a day that I haven’t been a cat owner and for most of my childhood we always had a dog as well.
I may have even had one of my cats living with me in my dorm room for a few weeks. Ha! Long story…but she didn’t make a peep!
The one and only fellow female in the house is our sweet Nya (Neeyah) who we adopted as a kitten years ago:
She is my sweetest girl! She needs to be on our lap as soon as we sit down. She’s very touchy feely too – always reaching up to our face or reaching her arms up near our necks like a hug:
She’s also our squeaker – she doesn’t meow, she just squeaks. 🙂 She’s our most skittish cat – she’ll come and lay on you and if you move the slightest bit she takes off…and then comes back within minutes.
My big boy is our oldest cat, our 16-year-old Baby. I found this boy during rough time in my life and he brought me so much joy (still does!). I named him Baby because he was just a big fluffy one – so sweet and loving and cuddly. Now this old fart is the old man of the house and reminds us of Grumpy Cat:
He has a permanent grouch face which we love. So serious.
I’m pretty sure he’s mostly if not all Maine Coon – they are super fluffy and just the most affectionate cats. His is the softest cat fur I’ve ever touched:
He used to be quite large but has lost a few pounds over the past few years in his old age. We just took him in for his yearly vet appointment and their comment was that he is “shockingly” healthy for his age. I swear he’s gotten a second wind in the past few months – so much more social than he has been for the past year or so.
This fluffy cat has my heart. I’ve had cats every day of my life and he’s that one – I don’t know what I’ll ever do without him.
Now…to Colby. Ohhhhh Colby. If you read my blog you know him. We adopted this guy when he was teensy – all of his siblings had died in a horrible situation so we took him sooner than we normally would. I had to bottle feed him for the first week we had him. I still think that may be why he’s so…different?:
This cat has tested me like no other animal in my whole life. He is harder than my son was as a threenager…I’m not even joking. Colby isn’t necessarily hyper, he’s just obnoxious. He knocks over every cup, loves to eat painter’s tape, climbs to the top of the 12 foot Christmas tree with ease and skids through the house at annoying high speeds. I take it back…he’s hyper.
He has to be involved in every. single. thing. we do:
We had help on our recent family room renovation last year and he is seriously BFF’s with the guys who did the work. He’s BFF’s with everyone. Literally anyone that walks in our house, he’s obsessed with.
He’s also a total ham and LOVES to be in front of the camera. I’ve given up on getting him out of my shots for the blog and Instagram because it’s impossible. He must be right in front of me. Honestly took me a while to fall in love with Colby…he has tested me. But I do love this crazy boy now. We’ve realized over the past two years that he just wants lots of love and attention. And he gets it. 😉
As an adult I always liked dogs but never had the desire to have our own. We just didn’t consider ourselves to be dog people. Until the day I saw this face:
And I couldn’t get him out of my head. I mean, can you blame me? That evening I stood in front of my husband bawling like a baby…he really thought I had lost my mind. We had no plan to get a dog. But if animals can be soul mates Peanut is mine. I couldn’t bear not having him.
Now there is no way we can ever imagine our days without him in it. Peanut is a Chia Rat – a Chihuahua rat terrier mix. He is fiercely protective – we’ve had to do some training because of it. He’s calmed down quite a bit because of that and his age but he’s still the best guard dog we could ask for. This dog would lay down his life for any one of us, I have no doubt.
He is small but mighty:
Or that could be chunky…we’re working on that. 😉
We’ve had many animals over the years and I see us always having at least three cats at all times – if Colby wasn’t so crazy I’d have another one, but I know my limits. Although animals are kind of like kids, you forget the pain and the exhaustion and all the sudden it doesn’t seem so hard:
Our house is a home because of our animals. They fill our days with laughter and joy and all of the messes are absolutely, completely worth it:
Thank you so much for having me Julia! I love this series! 🙂

What a great furry family! I’m totally dreaming about having my own little dog one day. I couldn’t have resisted Peanuts face either. So sweet.
In the above photos you saw Sarah’s dark fireplace surround already which you can see by clicking HERE and I’m also really in love with the kitchen island she recently built and you can see one photo below and click HERE to see her post.
Hop on over to visit Sarah and her family.
Happy weekend my friends.

I LOVE the first picture of Colby!!
Me too
Thank you so much for having me Julia! I loved sharing more about our furry babies!
I’m the one who has to thank you for participating and sharing their story with my readers. I think Colby has a fan club now. Have a great weekend Sarah!
great pictures 🙂 We have 3 cats and a dog too, and I’ve also given up on trying to get them out of blog photos! haha.
I love when the pets are in the photos. No need to get them out 😉
Like you, we have three cats (but no dog). And your cats are exactly the same as our cats! We have a tuxedo that’s shy but loves snuggles and “meeps” (or squeaks). We have a big tabby cat. And we have a playful calico cat that gets into everything and wants to be everybody’s friend. So much cat love! 🙂
My calico is our cat-dog. They are such different little creatures.
they are all so sweet and full of personality! i love colby- he seems quirky. 😉
I know, I love him too. He’s funny
What a sweet little pet family! We can totally relate to seeing the perfect face and bringing them home with us. If I could I would have a house full of animals.
I want a house full too but need some more money first.
Another fantastic pets post, loved it <3
They are all adorable, thanks for the visit Brandy
Oh goodness! that picture of Colby with his head through the back of the chair is killing me! killing me with the cuteness!
He totally is killing it. He needs his own Instagram account.
Oh my gosh I think I NEED more cats!! Seriously too cute!!
Haha, me too! I kinda want Colby. And I need a Peanut of my own.
These are some of the cutest furbabies ever!!! I love the ladder kitty 🙂 And always dying over your gorgeous home Sarah! That fireplace surround…
Yes ladder kitty needs his own fan page! He’s so cute
SO happy to know I’m not the only person in the world who owns three cats. Now my hubby can’t call me crazy cat lady anymore! Your older boy has a face like my boy cat. I love it.
Antonella
Haha, I love being called crazy cat lady now because that’s what I am and if we’d have a bigger house and more money, I’d have more than for. Thanks for the visit Antonella.
Gosh I love this series so much!!! I love Peanut’s face and all the extra fluff he has. Your animal house is so cute!
Glad you like the series. I think Peanut is awesome too. He reminds me a little of a Prairie dog. I so want my own little pup one day. My cats are just so opinionated and don’t
even like the neighbor dog visiting. I’m afraid they’d be awful to a little dog.
I know Sarah’s blog well! Great to see her here, too! I got a very different glimpse of her beautiful home and LOVED hearing about these sweet pets!
I kinda want to hear more about Colby and his antics. He’s so cute.
This post was right up my alley! I am subscribed to Sarah’s blog, and I first look for her “photo-op” pets in her photographs, then look at the do-it-yourself project she is telling us about. It’s wonderful to learn a little more about the quirks and personalities of the “herd”!
I’m glad you liked the post Linda, have a great Sunday.
I LOVE Sarah’s blog, naturally. But it’s really endearing she’s had so much trouble with Colby. I’ve felt like an aweful person for the way I’ve felt about my Jeckyl. I love him to death but he drives me bonkers!
Thank you so much for the incredibly sweet comment you left on my blog! You have such a great and fun perspective and I have about 10 tabs open for posts of yours that I want to read.
Awww thanks so much Alissa! You have such great style and I’m going to have to try some of your curly hair tips for sure. I know you can’t see it in the photo but my hair is just like yours and I should embrace it and not fight it with a straightener 😉 Have a great week.
