Living Pretty With Your Pets: Simple Details
Pet Friday again today and I’m excited to have the amazing Pam of Simple Details with me today. I have been reading her stylish blog for quite some time now and I love following along to see what amazing Craigslist finds she’ll discover or room makeovers she’ll tackle next. She has a great eye for design and today I’m thrilled to share this animal loving side of hers with all of you. She’s a woman of my own heart.
Hey Cuckoo 4 Design friends, I’m Pam from Simple Details and am thrilled to be here giving you a peek at our life with fur babies. Julia is such an inspiration to me, not only do her fresh, unique DIY projects amaze every single time, but her heart for animals is truly unmatched, and lucky are the ones who accidentally find their way under her stoop.
I’ve loved Julia’s series and all the touching stories, and am so happy to share ours today.
We share our home with Mikko, our sweet eight year old tabby, the introvert, and our Golden girl Rio, the spunky extrovert, is six. If you’ve read my blog for any time at all, you’ve caught a glimpse of them sharing the spotlight.
We used to get a little neighborhood paper tossed on our driveway, nothing newsworthy, but I always checked the photo of the pet up for adoption. Late one evening, spur of the moment we headed to the shelter and in no time were drawn to the smallest, most pathetic ‘Pacito.’ We had planned a ski trip early the next morning and I suggested we wait to bring home a kitten when we would be home and had food and a litter box, minor details that my boys weren’t going for. We headed home with a new member of our family, making a stop at the closest pet store for necessities, and immediately changed his name in honor of a hockey player at Mr. Simple’s suggestion.
As you’ll see from the photos Mikko has a favorite, and can’t wait till his pal gets home from school, he has joined him every single day for homework, lounging and bedtime since day one.
Unfortunately, Detail Boy had a couple bad experiences with dogs when he was young, and was not a fan, to the point of not wanting to play at homes that had a dog. Having grown up with a LOT of pets I experienced the immeasurable love and amusement they bring to a family. I knew that he would be missing out, and that an adorable puppy was the ticket that would win him over. So I started planting the seed, and challenging as it was, had convinced him a puppy would be the perfect 10th birthday present! 🙂 The process was half the fun and after endless hours online and at shelters we searched for a reputable breeder. We narrowed it down to two that were on opposite ends of the state and set out for a trip, with Grandma & Granddad along for the fun, to find our his girl.
First day home…
Of course, you can guess this story ends successfully!
She is quite the princess, but still a retriever at heart and is proud to bring us everything
possible. I’ll only share the pretty!
Rain or shine she brings the paper in every morning.
A typical day at our house finds them napping together while waiting for their pal.
Or helping me with DIY projects.
These sweet fur babies are the perfect fit for our family and to say we’re crazy about them is an understatement.
I’d love you to stop by and check out Simple Details and my endless list of projects that are always in the works.
Thanks so much for having us Julia and to all of your awesome readers for indulging me!

Mikko and Rio are awesome and live the life that any pet should live. Don’t you agree?
And now head on over to her blog to check out her awesome projects. I’m in love with her hallway (there you can see that we are kindred spirits) and her recent amazing kitchen makeover. Please check it out, it’s really really good. And there is so much more to see!!!
Tschüß and have a great weekend.

oh my goodness how sweet are these photos! mikko on the arm of the couch with pam’s son- the best! and rio is just beautiful- i love goldens! what a fabulous family for those pets!
Pam was one of my first friends in blogland and I love her. These pictures of her boy and the animals are precious. Animals unite us in a special club of passionate souls. I have a golden and a tabby cat, too ( and a Shih Tzu and pony) and have always felt a special kinship to Pam. This is a great series Julia and warms my heart! xo Nancy
love that you also have some furry DIY helpers! Rio looks like a doll!
Every one of these photos was a joy to look at this morning. It’s clear that there is much love for these babies- Mikko is hilarious in his poses. Rio looks like Mama’s girl. 🙂
Such a great post and I adore Pam!!! The pic of Mikko on the arm of the couch is too funny and I can’t believe Rio gets the paper! Such a sweet family! Have a wonderful weekend friend.
I absolutely love the kitty pic on the arm of the couch! I really enjoy this series because it shows that it is possible to have a beautiful home with furry friends.
Love this precious family and the fact that Mikko and Rio happily coexist!
Oh, I love all of these photos! That second one of C & Mikko crashed on the sofa arm made me laugh! I’d say Rio is a keeper if she brings the paper in every day! Loved reading your pet story so much, Pam, and getting to know these “family members” better! 😉
oh my gosh, that cat laying on everything is just so classic-ly cat. such a cutie!

Aww, thank you so much for having me Julia (and for putting this together while you’re on vacation in Germany) and to everyone for your sweet comments! 🙂
Such beautiful pets! And I love that Rio has a job every morning.
I adore your pet series Julia, as much as I adore Pam! The pictures of her son with their cat are so sweet. I love that her dog gets the paper everyday. I’ll have to teach my pups that one!!
For some reason, my comments are going to never never land ….. somewhere in the outerspace of the web world. lol……. trying again.

Love your pets, Pam, and as you know I’m familiar with them from following your blog. But I don’t remember seeing photos of your beautiful cat, so that was a nice treat. I can tell he’s a big help with your DIY projects (ha, ha). Love the shots of Rio, and pinned that photo of her holding the garden tool to my Dogs board on Pinterest. So cute!
Claudia
I love the way they are helping too. So cute

I love, love these posts about animals! When I win the lottery, I’m going to buy property outside a city and adopt as many dogs as I can. 🙂 Rio is one of my favorites and see her occasionally in Pam’s posts. Haven’t seen Mikko but it’s obvious how much they’re both loved.

She lost me at “we looked for a reputable breeder.” What a shame. For every breeder’s dog that gets a home, a dog in the shelter loses out on a chance to live.
I know and agree with you 100%. I preach the same every time to friends and actually wish it would be illegal to breed dogs and cats. They aren’t merchandise!
But regardless I love Pam and she is giving her pets a great home.
