Thrift Store Finds
Yay, the weekend is ahead and guess what? I’m heading to the Philly airport to pick up my dad on Sunday who will be staying with us for 2 weeks. My daughter is so excited and keeps asking me when it’s finally time to go get Opa! She said that 14 days aren’t enough, she thinks it should at least be 100 days. My kids love heading to the airport. So if I’m not posting as much next week as I usually do, then you know why, ok? On the other hand I will have some more time since my dad is a wonderful cook (he loves it) and he plans a great meal for the family every night so his daughter doesn’t have to cook. We are all looking forward to that 😉
I have been getting some really cute things at the thrift store lately and I know that if you have been following me on Instagram then this is probably old news for you but I feel like sharing anyway.
And yes there is a theme and I think I have to stop myself at some point.
This is a really heavy larger brass vase. |
A brass wall light fixture that I wanted to use for my latest project but now I’m not sure. |
A box, that is kind of odd, but I dig it! |
A tall and thin brass candle stick. |
A wooden antelope, apple, pear and a large brass jingle bell which my daughter is taking to school for show and tell today. |
Brass frame |
And, hey, a Nate Berkus box for $2! |
And the next thing is kind of a strange but I really love it. It’s a brass musical butterfly object which plays swan lake. It would be so cute for our daughter’s room and she loves the music. But can I say something else? How annoying are those price stickers?? They drive me insane! Killing me! Does it drive you nuts when you get stickers that leave all kinds of sticky residue behind. What do you use to remove this stuff? I use peanut butter, yup. I keep rubbing and rubbing but it takes foreveeerrrr. It was a very bad idea though to let a 6 year old help me trying to apply peanut butter to sticky sticker residue. What a disaster!
Come on people, really? At least use the underside of the piece. |
I totally forgot to take a photo of my favorite item which is a flower pot with a lion head on it. I’m using it for one of my orchids. Here is just a bad cellphone picture of the head. I love this flower pot!!
So what do you think? Are you all forming a blogger intervention now? I will be spending my time trying to find room for all those things. And I know that a lot of people still think that all this stuff is ugly. I hear it from my neighbor all the time, LOL!
Well and oh wait, here is a sneak peak of what I have been working on and I hope I can reveal it next week. Hmmm, what is it?
Love the pot with the lion’s head, I saw the Nate box at our Goodwill, too! Great finds, and if you’re doing that pattern, oh my gosh!! Enjoy your 14 days! 🙂
I love that box and thanks Pam.
I love all the things you bought! You really have an attraction to brass right now!
I do 😉
brass, brass and more brass….love it! I feel ya with the sticker thing. My usual thrift shop puts the stickers on the glass of the framed art. Why? Can’t they at least put the sticker on the frame?
Or how about the back?
Love the great finds. I can’t wait to see the reveal!
Thanks Ashley!
you found some great finds! I’m totally with you on the sticker thing, drives me crazy sometimes. I use goo gone or cooking oil to get it off. If you let it sit for a few minutes it usually comes off.
Thanks, I’ll try that next time!
Use ‘Goop be gone’ to remove all stickers, decals etc…..awesome!!!
Ok, I’ll try that too!
WOW!! What great finds, I’, loving all the brass. Can’t wait to hear more about the secret project..I’m already enjoying the succulent in the foreground. Enjoy your father’s visit these next two weeks!!!
Thanks Christina!
Hey my dear! My go to sticker removing products are “Goo Gone” and “Goof Off”. I get mine at Target. The goof off is in a little tin can and is super chemically and smells like a acid corrosion in a can. I think there may be a little spray bottle version of it, too. You can pretty much only use it outdoors in a very well ventilated area. I’m not sure about using that one on your brass though? There may be an issue with it compromising the finish, but on things like glass and mirror its magic. The goo gone comes in a spray bottle that’s more similar to like a household cleaner consistency and smells like citrus. Thats t only does is remove annoying stickers. It also takes care of things like gum, dried paint, and other crazy spills. Anywho…..I love the sneak peek and I hope you have a wonderful time with your dad! Have a great weekend.
*i meant “not only does it”. Darned cell phone:)
Thanks for the hint Shavonda!
I love all of your finds! I have been meaning to make a trip to the thrift store again. Totally inspired! Have a great weekend!
Thanks and you too Melissa.
I am on the awesome brass train, too, which is fabulous because you can find it everywhere! I, unlike your neighbors, think your loot is eclectic and wonderful! I love goo gone, too. It’s perfect for removing stickers and it actually will get quite a bit of stains out of rugs, clothes, etc… My goodwill is notorious for writing the price on items in PERMANENT MARKER!?! Most of the time, they will write on the bottom, but two items I have bought recently, had them on the back or in plain site?!? Jesse @ Scout & Nimble
I’m glad that I’m not a lone on the brass train!
I think it’s safe to say that someone’s on a brass kick! Great finds. I’d love to see a larger picture of the flower pot, it looks amazing!
I love the flower pot!
I’m pretty enamored with that brass sconce. Pretty sconces that plug in are really hard to come by. I also use goo gone and goof off for those annoying stickers!
Yes, the sconce is awesome but not sure where to use it yet.
wow! I love all your finds 🙂 I can’t wait to see all the future projects you will do with them! I hope you will enjoy your 10 days with your father and family dinners 🙂
I will enjoy and gain a few pounds 😉
i totally love the brass butterfly and the shell and really everything else!!!!
Thanks Cassie!
Thanks! And LOL I’ll let you know!
Ooo, great finds. Ask me a year ago and I’d tell you that you were crazy if you’d think I’d bring brass in my house. Now it keeps coming home with me left and right. Love that light!
Same here! I didn’t like it either a year ago!
GREAT finds! Please tell me you found these on separate occasions at different stores! How many times a week do you thrift? I’ve been itching to thrift lately… Best way to find “special” pieces! Guess I’m going to have to scratch it this week!
Thanks for sharing. Love your blog. 🙂
This stuff was from two different trips 😉 and thanks so much!
What great finds! I love that ornate box! Too cool.

House on the Way
Reading some of your old posts and I can’t believe the goodies you found! The wood antelope and shell vase are so cute and so now! I need a thrifting trip one of these days but I have so much to get rid of at my house, i feel bad bringing anything home!
