Sideboard Changes
How was your weekend? Same old same old over here, soccer Saturdays, firepit with the neighbors and lots of good food.
I failed to mention last week that amongst my many mishaps was also a mirror accident. I SMASHED THE MIRROR ABOVE THE SIDEBOARD ON THE FLOOR. Ugh!!! While the glass thankfully didn’t brake, the frame wasn’t that lucky and it was just split and broken.
This is the mirror that broke. The starburst moved to a different location which I’ll share with you soon, hopefully. |
So now I had to try out some mirrors out of my stash. I do have a mirror stash 😉
First I tried a mirror that has been hanging in the basement:
It’s supposed to hang tall though and I don’t like it this way. It looks much better in the basement.
Then I tried the next mirror that I have just stashed away in the storage room:
Not bad but kind of boring!
Then I thought about a round mirror that I have in that same stash but I really dislike the color and finish of it:
This round mirror used to hang over our living room sofa in my brown and beige phase.
I ended up priming the round mirror with some Kilz spray primer and then I used some mint Valspar spray paint. I’m a total idiot because I threw the can out before writing the name down for my blog post. Typical! Sorry 😉 The reason that I picked a minty turquoise is the light above my kitchen sink.
And I didn’t stop with the mirror. The lamps that used to be on the sideboard are now gold. They used to be beige, then silver and now are sporting a shiny gold.
Check it out:
And that’s it. Short and sweet post!
What have you been up to?

Those lamps are completely adorable with the gold on them. It looks so good with the black shades. Love the minty mirror. The texture is fab. So sad that the other mirror broke. It looked really great with that starburst on it 🙂
Thanks, I loved the starburst over the mirror too now it’s hanging over another mirror which is ok with me too.
Thank goodness for a mirror stash! The circle mirror looks like it was always meant to hang there. The color goes well and I love the gold lamps.
Haha, yes a mirror stash is always good!
I always say just little changes go a long way in keeping our spaces fresh.. I love the lamps in Gold.. I know there are a bunch of good ones out there but which one did you use?
Thanks, a little change without having to spend any money is always good 😉
Boxwoods, gold, mint, and an antler – love it all!
LOL, thanks and I think so too.
I like the blue! Especially with the gold. I also have a stash of mirrors and frames in the basement…the husband hates it lol
Well we totally need that stash, right?
Looks snazzy. Love the detail on the mirror. I also have a stash, but it’s mostly of the tool variety.
Thanks John. I got the tool stash too!
Love – what s difference spray paint makes, huh? Looks beautiful!
Thanks and I agree spray paint is the BEST.
I have to say I LOVE the blue mirror much better than the first one…and those lamps are lovely painted gold…
Thank you Cheryl!
love the new incarnation! the blue is perfect and i love the shape!
Thank you my friend and I love the color too 😉
I love your new look! The lamps are great! Where of where is the starburst? I have moved mine to at least 4 different locations. I love it over mirrors the best. I am enjoying the saga of all the mirrors, especially since I love mirrors!
Lol, I know you love mirrors too. Let’s just say the starburst is hanging over another mirror now too and I’ll share it soon!
Luuuurve the mint Julia. I think I can tell you the color. The only Valspar spray paint I’ve ever used is a mint color that looks just like this. That sideboard is gorgeous too!
You just might have to tell me which one it is. There are too very similar colors though from Valspar. One is more green the other one is more blue.
Love your idea to paint the mirror, it gives the traditional pieces a fresh vibe! SO pretty!
Thanks Pam, I was so tired of it’s look before.
That was a bounty moment…a quicker picker upper. . 🙂 looks great …love the green and gold combination
LOL, yes it was and thanks!
The mint, dark wood and gold all look great together!! Good choice with the round mirror.
Thanks Kelly.
I wish I lived closer so I could shop at Julia’s House of Mirrors. Love the mint! Good shopping. 🙂
My house of mirror’s I like the sound of that and thanks!
I love that you have a mirror stash Julia! The blue looks fab with the wood. I’ve gotta say, your photography skills inspire me. You post the most charming photos on your blog.

Thanks so much Marie, I always feel so self conscious about my photography skills so it’s nice to heat that someone likes them.
So sorry that your mirror broke, but boy did you make up for it! I looove your new one…the color and frame detail are perfection!
And I’m really happy that I’m not the only one with a mirror stash in their house. 😉
Every girl needs a mirror stash, I think!
And thanks
So beautiful, Julia! I think the round mirror was the perfect choice. I love the vignette–so elegant!
Lovveeee the mint and gold together! Seriously perfect!

Man, quite the arsenal of mirrors you have sitting around!
We have a bunch of stuff stockpiled, mainly vintage art, and we always forget we have it 🙂
Oh how gorgeous! I love all the changes you made. You’re lamps are a show stopper painted gold.
Perfect! Love the new color on the mirror and the lamps are perfect for this vignette!
Love, love, love your sideboard. Totally jealous.

The lamps are great with a gold finish. Good choice on the mirror!
Oh how sad that you broke your other mirror. But you have a stash of mirrors? Be still my heart. I adore mirrors and I need many more…… I am always on the look out for them, but rarely get anywhere to find anything nice for the price.
