Switzerland: Lucerne, Küssnacht
I’m posting a little bit more about Switzerland today (if you missed Monday’s post click HERE). We are lucky enough to have friends who live in Küssnacht and who we were able to stay with. They live in an amazing hillside home that looks out onto the Rigi (the mountain by Küssnacht). Lake Lucerne is beautiful but I didn’t take that many photos because it was really cloudy when we went to town. But regardless my kids loved just sitting by the water to let their feet hang in and take in the atmosphere.
We were also able to visit Lucerne for a short amount of time which was certainly worth it as well. My son has already decided that he wants to go back one day. He loves European streets lined with restaurants, cafes and street musicians and it is my favorite too. Lucerne has such charm with the lake that turns into a river (yup this time it’s the other way around), the wooden bridges and city walls.
We had a nice cold beer at the Rathaus Brauerei while looking out onto the water.
And yes I’m guilty, some of the photos are iPhone again and some are my actual camera. I was just too lazy in some instances and relied on my husband to take some photos with his camera. Well, it’s vacation, right?
My kids were also able to enjoy doing some summertime sledding in Sattel or I should say Sattel Hockstuckli and they had so much fun.
Oh and you know what surprised me the most about Switzerland? The current architecture! It’s in such stark contrast to what their history projects. When we visited the German Alps 2 years ago (Chiemsee visit and Königssee visit) where it was apparent that the Germans stick to restoring their old buildings and even continue building new structures to go with the old traditional ones. But in Switzerland, the trend is to tear down and build new, and by new I mean ultra-modern concrete structures with lots of windows. It was really different to see and certainly unexpected.
And the finished inside is concrete and even some plywood walls. With high-end bath and kitchen finishes, like red lacquered cabinets:
I even got my cat fix with our friend’s new family addition, isn’t she cute? I miss my kitties:
That’s it for today. My poor hubby is back home already taking care of things while the kids and I remain here to enjoy some more time with my family.

“My” wonderful trip is continue through your camera! The new buildings are such a contrast and I’m not sure I like what they have done.
Glad your daughter is improving…..

A few of those pictures remind me a bit of our trip to Venice and that sometime sledding looks like a blast. I would have totally been on there with them!
Oh wow! Summertime sledding looks like so much fun! And that’s so interesting about the new style of architecture – it’s a little too cold and modern for me!
Love following along Julia! Hope you’re having a blast!
Great pictures and adorable kitten! The sledding looks so fun!
I am such a sucker for old, European architecture. So gorgeous. And we used to do “sledding” like that at Camelback when I was a kid 🙂 Looks like another wonderful trip, hope you’re enjoying it all!
Oh I so am enjoying it and it’s just the type of brake I needed to get new ideas for the following blog year 😉
Gorgeous!! I can only imagine how incredible it is in real life!
You should go one day
That’s so interesting about the new architecture (and a little sad if I’m honest – I love old buildings)! And I missed our kitties when we were away too – I actually ended up making a little ‘friend’ at one of the restaurants and Wayne kept threatening he was going to tell Meisha when we got back that I was ‘cheating’ on her with other cats! LOL! xxx
