Summer Home Tour 2021
Today I’m participating in a summer home tour blog hop hosted by my dear friend Marty of A Stroll Through Life again. I’m always so thankful for her hosting this blog hop because it features so many different styles.
I hope you are enjoying all the tours and welcome everyone coming from Laura’s of Decor to Adore.
In my tour today, I toned it down with the staging mostly because I didn’t have the time and also because I’ve been so busy with life lately. Our son graduated high school, we went to the beach over Memorial Day, and a bunch of other things just happened.
One of the things that just happened is that I switched my blog theme as well yesterday to help with my google page speed, so if anything is wonky today, please bear with me. And if you notice anything specific, let me know, I’d so appreciate it.
I literally just took my camera and snapped some photos. Especially outside, there is no fancy table setting or anything. Just how it was yesterday in the house and when I opened the door to the yard in the morning because I love the morning glow so much.

Do you spot my new wall hanging? I don’t think it is completely done yet because I might add some more details to the bottom but I’m happy with where I am at with it at the moment.
I created it following my recent tutorial HERE that was inspired by THIS wall hanging if you want to check it out. It is definitely rather time-consuming but to me so worth it.
I didn’t clean the pillow on the chair. You can spot the cat hair and dent. That is Willy’s favorite chair to sleep in and while I clean it frequently, it usually always sports some cat hair. I’m completely ok with that. Just wanted to show it and point it out because most people ask me how my house stays so clean which it definitely does not.
Over Memorial Day weekend, we went to the beach and I spent some time photographing some of my old projects. I love taking photos on the beach because to me the beach makes everything look and feel better. I linked them so you can check them out.
You might have noticed that the planter is currently sitting on my one end table in the living room.
Our kitchen
Something else that has recently changed in our home is the dishwasher finish. If you missed it, I wrapped it in car vinyl to match the cabinets. I couldn’t reface it with a cabinet front and painting isn’t an ideal option either.
The car vinyl is heat-resistant and pretty durable and I love how it turned out. You can check out the project HERE.
Our Garden
Every year our garden fills in more and more. In spring we spend quite some time dividing plants so we can fill in empty spaces. I love that it keeps feeling more and more like a jungle… a jungle in Pennsylvania.
On the left side below, you can see the fence. We are currently trying to grow some more trumpet vines along the fence and the plan is to grow and trim them into a tree shape. I hope this will make the path to the stock tank pool feel more like you are entering a secret garden and even out the distribution of plants throughout the yard. The brown fence currently feels so empty. Less is definitely not more in my landscaping visions.
The faux rock for the stock tank pool pump cover is blending in more and more too. can you spot it to the left? You can see the blog post about it HERE.
I love using difference foliage, leaf textures and colors. I’d say we have plenty which makes it ok when there aren’t that many blooms.
Just like last year, I hung some hanging plants into our umbrella. They always love it. Especially my pitcher plant appears to like it. Probably because more bugs are crawling into the carnivorous pitchers and the humidity is finally higher.
I took some photos the other night when we had friends over to show you how it looks when we are hanging out. We love it and spend as much time as possible out there. In fact I’m sitting out here as I’m typing this blog post.
And this is it for today. I hope you enjoyed my toned-down, un-staged tour.
Tomorrow the tours continue at Cristina’s home of Remodelando la Casa. You have to make sure to continue. I always love her home so much! Below you can see who else has participated so far.
Tschüß,
Tschüß,
I just love your tours, staged or unstaged! And, this year especially loved seeing more details outside! You could be a professional landscaper! Your backyard space is so lovely! I would spend all my time out there and in that amazing stock tank pool!!
Thanks Doreen, I love working in the yard.
As I was reading through and looking at the photos I was thinking about how fun it has been to see your home evolve. I have always loved it, but right now it’s my favorite rendition! Your green kitchen and outdoor spaces, and all of your beautiful macrame handiwork- just beautiful! And I would not have guessed it’s unstaged. I never stage mine anymore. I mean, I tidy up, but making it look like something more than it’s not… I just don’t have that time!!!
Thanks Cassie, I have reached a point where I don’t really want to change much anymore. Feeling content is such a nice feeling and it also makes me not want to stage anything besides the fact that I’d rather spend my time doing other things 😉
I love that macrame hanging, it is stunning. You always amaze me with your talent and your home truly reflects you and your talents. I am crazy about your backyard and especially your fabulous tank pool. You have turned your yard into such a paradise. I love it. Thanks so much for joining the tours again this season. Your home is always one I look forward to visiting.
Thank you Marty for always having such sweet compliments and organizing the blog hop.
Your home is so lovely and soothing! I gathered such wonderful inspiration. Your new layout looks terrific and I had no problems. The page loaded very quickly!
Thanks Laura, still didn’t reach the green area for the stupid speed test. It’s driving me crazy 😉
Your place looks fantastic! You’ve created such a welcoming and beautiful home for your family!
Thank you so much Karen.
Oh your home, it’s so lovely…so cozy and real and beautiful! I absolutely love it. And that wall hanging you made, it’s fantastic!! Also how genius is it to cover your dishwasher with a car decal?!!!
Thank you Jo-Anna, I’m oping to figure out something for the stove yet too.
Beautiful home tour! I love macrame wall hanging and the rug in your lounge is so pretty too! What a fabulous outdoor space you’ve created, it looks like a mini jungle – I love that!
Thanks Jayne, our goal is definitely to make it look like a Pennsylvania jungle 😉 We are almost there.
I’ll take staged over unstaged any day! Especially with cats. <3 Thanks for all the beauty you bring to the world! I have an 8' stock tank sitting in my backyard right now because of you. 😉
Thanks Bathany and good luck with your stock tank pool. I’d love to see it when it is done.
I absolutely adore your style, friend. I love how your home feels neutral and zen, yet still very much youthful and interesting. And dont even get me started on the macramé.
Thanks Erica, I’m already thinking of what other macrame I can make. I’m addicted.
That new macrame piece is wonderful. Not only is un-staged good and *real*,you truly captured the essence of summer by snapping your friends enjoying your lovely outdoor space. That’s what it’s all about!
Thanks Jayla, we sit out there almost every weekend with friends and once summer is over we miss it so much. I hope it will be a nice long summer.
Omg I have the same color cats
Tyson/ Blonde
Dory/Black & White
Love your decor your home is beautiful
We have an all-black cat yet too. Walter is such a character.
Love the tour, thank you for sharing your beautiful home 🙂
Please will you make a tutorial on how to DIY the stunning new macrame wall hanging – I want to make one for my home to hang on a brick wall! Love it! xx
Hi Melanie, I used my tutorial on how to make this long tassel https://cuckoo4design.com/how-to-make-long-narrow-wall-art-using-combed-macrame-yarn-and-embroidery-floss/ which is basically the same thing but just several lined up in different combinations onto a wooden dowl rod. The longest part is to unravel all the macrame yarn but I found it relaxing and binged watched numerous shows while I made it.
Your home is so warm and beautiful! I love what you did with the dishwasher and your outdoor oasis is fantastic!
What a beautiful home! Where did you get the area rug in your living room? I love the pattern and it looks very cozy. I have to get the rug in my living room deep cleaned by a rug every several months because it gets so dirty with my kids and pets. I’m considering just replacing the rug, and I would love to get the one you have!
Thanks Sarah and good luck with your rug search we love ours and have had it for years.
Beautiful home! I’m almost sold on Karndean Texas White Ash but it’s kinda frustrating me that it looks sooooooo different in most of the pics I see. Is there a strong gray undertone or is more beige? Would you consider it warm or cool? How has it been holding up for you?
Hi Mark, sorry for the delayed response, I was on vacation. I wrote a blog post about some different toned Karndean flooring options and you can check it out here: https://cuckoo4design.com/comparing-light-colored-wood-vinyl-plank-flooring-samples/ Hope that helps! And we still love our floor so much. I don’t consider it cool and rather warm but it doesn’t have a warm yellow undertone.
