Carpeted ramp for elderly cat
On this fabulous and oh-so-hot Friday I wanted to share a small update I’ve made around the house. Just a little somethin’ somethin’. Maybe I’ll call it “a little somethin’ somethin’ Friday“.
I have been really wanting to de-brown our bedroom. While I’m still loving our leather and nailhead trim bed, I’m kind of getting tired of the excess of brown. I still have the reupholstery of the chaise on my to do list but won’t even think about tackling it before this fall or winter. It’s way too scary for the fun summer time.
Anyways, I just took the frames of our silhouettes and painted them with mint spray paint. Actually the same as our bathroom mirror (click HERE). My 6 year old daughter was mad because she wanted teal. Sorry babygirl! Hey, maybe she was right though!?!?!
Here’s a photo of what the bedroom artwork looked like before:
And here are the frames after:
Can you spot the kitty cat? |
Ahhh, a little cat hair in the picture! Oh well it’s reality in my house! |
Aren’t those large Hosta leaves in my thrifted vase awesome? |
Should I have gone with my babygirl’s suggestion? Teal instead of mint? I’m in love with the mixed color combo in the chair pillow fabric!
These photos where taken early in the morning when the sun shines into the bedroom. Aren’t they so different from the first one when it was a later time of the day? The colors don’t even look the same. I could have changed it in Photoshop but felt like showing you the huge difference.
My camera is still driving me nuts with the blurriness and graininess. Thanks again babygirl for running over the tripod while the camera was on it!
One more thing. Do you want to see the reality of what I do for my cats?
And all you animal haters just turn your head, uhm ok?
My rolly-polly 17 year old little Manx named Heidi was never a jumper due to the lack of having a tail and since she’s gotten up there in age, she isn’t doing much anymore besides snore and wobble.
I love her though (she is my first baby) and she is also my biggest nighttime snuggler. We have a total routine!
So what did I do since she can’t jump up on the bed at all anymore?
Well, I built her a ramp and this is what my bedroom usually looks like:
Keeping it real folks, keeping it real, I tell ya! And there she is lying on the bed because she loves the ramp which is hooked into the bed frame with some bent ikea strips.
Anything not so pretty that you have done for your pets lately? Please do tell because I don’t want to feel like the only cuckoo pet lady around! Well y’all know I’m cuckoo that’s no secret and I wouldn’t want to have it any other way 😉
Talk to you on Monday my friends and stay cool if you live on the East Coast.

I like the color combination of the mirror with the mint. When my elderly little girl kitty couldn’t get on my bed I got steps that were made for dogs. At the time I had three 20 year old cats. They loved it.
Aww that is so sweet and how incredible to have three 20 year old kitties.
i love how such a small change can have such impact! they look so much better like that and lighten the room up!
Thanks Cassie!!
I love the mint! I think it goes well with the teal but it isn’t too matchy, matchy. Your bedroom is adorable!
Thanks so much Megan!
Yeah, mint is totally addicting! I honestly can’t wait to see your library wall and giveaway tomorrow!
First – I totally agree with the mint choice. I think teal would have been too matchy, matchy.
Second – we bit the bullet and hired a therapist for our dog. Lord help me. We had to do something, and this guys seemed like the answer. He’s very Cesar Milan-ish. we’ve had our first session and with only 4 days of practice under our belt things already seem better. And believe me, if Diefenbaker can’t get up the stairs at some point I am sure I will be building him a ramp!
Yay, you know that I had the therapist books for my cats. I think that’s awesome and I love you for doing this for Diefenbaker (love saying his name). You’ll probably end up needing a forklift for him though LOL.
Love your pretty mint update, it’s such a fresh color with the brown! And the ramp ~ you are the absolute sweetest!!
Thanks Pam and Heidi loves her ramp too 😉
Your kitties are so lucky to have you and the mint looks awesome and fresh! Yay to spray paint! Stay cool and have a good weekend!
The smallest detail changes can make the biggest impact! Love what you have done.
We have been pet less since we lost our family poodle many, many years ago…but I can relate. You are really not cuckoo, just a loving pet owner!
I do love all of the decorating and changes that you make. I am so impressed that you do much of it yourself. Most of all, I love the kitty-ramp. so practical! I also wanted to make a correction to some mis-information that I gave about cat-food premix: it used to be called FELINE INSTINCTS or FELINE FUTURES. It is now called TC FELINE, http://www.tcfeline.com.
It is still located on Salt Spring Island, just across from Washington State. Since my diabetic kitty passed about 5 years ago, I have not had another furry love-but it is time and I will go this tcfeline route. I apologize for not being up-to-date with information. Thank you.
I’m sorry, but the ramp is the most darling part of the whole room… without question. 🙂
Don’t be sorry, I’m so glad you like it! Most people give me a “are you freakin serious?” 😉
Sometimes little updates make huge impact, and this one does…I love it!
And I totally don’t think you are crazy. We do anything for our little furbabies, don’t we? SO cute!! 🙂
If you have pets and you love them, you naturally do what is best for them. You have such darlings.
I like the mint just fine. And if you had not said spray paint, I ‘would’ have said to mix a 1/4 of the teal into the mint, but since…. and I think the straight teal might have been a tadge too much also.
love love love the mint accents!
Thanks so much!
Omg…I love you…the ramp for your furry babies is the best! They are so lucky to have you! 😉 I think mint was the way to go…I love that it picks up some of the mint colored leaves in the pillow in your chair. It’s perfect! And I can tell you are a girl after my own heart with all the pillows. I love them all and your room looks great…never even noticed the blurriness you were talking about. Think we are our own worst critic sometimes because your photos are fab! Jesse @ Scout & Nimble
I’m praying that somebody will take care of me this way when I’m old 😉
And I think you are right, we are our own worst critics, but that’s a good thing I think!
Looks so great! Just painting those frames made such the difference!
Thanks Kristen!
LOVE the mint!! And the kitty ramp is sweet too:) Our little Bailey sleeps with us on our bed, so I totally understand!!

Your posts always make me smile Julia!
First, I think you could easily go with either color and the frames would be great! The pillows pull it all together showing off all your beautiful hues-
I love the little change, it really does make a big difference.
AND the RAMP! Love it!!!! We have 3 tiny pups and Reba-the-Cat in the bed with us at night and I love it too!
Have a great weekend xoxo

Love the update Julia, your room is beautiful! 🙂 & mint is lovely for the frames! right now I’m really not liking our brown sectional in our living room, I would love to swap it with the one from the basement but it’s getting hard convincing hubby! 🙂 & love what you do for your cat! we did something similar for our puppie Angel, he was scared of jumping when he was a baby, so we bought a small ‘pouf’ just for him to help him jump, he learned! now, I got him my son’s pouf in the living room so he can sleep there! 🙂 I think pets are like family members and we do anything for these little ones! 🙂
I think mint was a good choice for the frames so you have a few layers of color in the room. And yes, I am still in the process of “de-browning” my own home. (I went crazy with a tri-color brown palette after we first moved in.)
You could have your daughter do a fun teal design on the kitty ramp.
Have a wonderful weekend, Julia!
I love your bed. Can you tell me where you got it from? Thanks!
Hi, the bed is from Magnussen:

What Ikea strips did you use to hold the ramp to the bed?
Hi there, they are Ikea shelf brackets that I bent slightly but they don’t have them anymore. Sorry!
