I was so sick of overeating, eating bad and from that having gained weight and feeling all around yucky and also angry and frustrated with myself. Can you relate to that? Christmas season is just such gluttony and when it is over leaves me feeling empty, fat and emotionally off.
I haven’t talked much about personal things lately, so today I want to just quickly address what I have done to make myself feel a whole lot better. I lost 10 pounds!
The best thing is that it does not involve any expensive exercising or dieting products, no extensive exercise and I didn’t even have to stop having some wine here and there.
How I lost weight after Christmas
I reached a point right after Christmas where I said no more and one day I spent an entire day online researching things and narrowing down what I think I could commit to and what I couldn’t because honestly that’s what it comes down to. You have to keep things real. But it also involves pushing yourself a little harder and that part really had to be done in a big way.
Here are some of the points that I wrote down:
Not spending a lot of money
Lets face it, all the programs and products out there always require money which is great when you have it and it works for you. I have a lot of friends who have done weight watchers. It has worked wonderful for them and I’m definitely not ditching those types of weight loss companies.
For myself I knew I couldn’t afford to spend the money. I knew that I had to do this myself with minimal funds involved.
Not starving myself
I firmly believe in the phrase “you have to feed the fire to burn fat”! You should keep your metabolism burning and make sure you’re burning fat and not muscle. Your metabolism is as a fire and you have to continually feed that fire to keep it burning. That doesn’t mean that you just keep eating whatever. That means that you eat the right amount of calories for your age, size and goal spread out over the day.
Not dropping all the carbs
I also believe that your body needs carbs. Whenever I have tried to eat mostly protein, I just crash and no it doesn’t go away after a couple of days. I just end up feeling like a sloth, tired and slow. It’s just not a good feeling and I really believe that our body needs a certain amount of carbs. And no I don’t mean loads of pasta, rice and bread.
I love having bread for breakfast and that needed to stay in my diet. I actually can’t stand yoghurt, especially greek yoghurt and in most plans there is always yoghurt. I know that if I was forced to eat yoghurt for breakfast I definitely wouldn’t keep it up. There’s just no way.
My favorite bread to eat in the morning is Ezekiel Sesame bread:
Still having wine
After Christmas I definitely have had enough wine and the rate I was going at needed to slow down…
I love having happy hour with friends and I don’t want to commit to giving that up completely in order to lose weight. Some of you might think that is wrong but I know myself and the fact that I would be miserable if I’d have to give up those certain hours of laughter and bonding with my friends. And yes you don’t need to have alcohol for this to happen but I feel like it would be too strict for me to keep up.
Easier meal planning
By that I mean that I need to be able to grab something quickly and not having to cook nonstop. I understand that in order to eat healthy you have to cook fresh meals but for a busy on the go person that is not always an option and when I’m really hungry and need to run, that’s when I make a quick and wrong food decision. So I had to find frozen or packaged meals and snacks that I could grab when I’m really hungry.
Now you are asking what did you do exactly and what are you eating? So let me tell you about my favorites.
The biggest change for me was weighing or counting everything that goes into my mouth. I needed to start being accountable for what I shoved into my mouth. I had lost complete responsibility for a while. When you start doing that on a regular food day then you see how many awful calories you actually eat.
I bought a cheap food scale (click HERE) and when I cook something it all gets weighed and written down.
Like I mentioned in my other post, I downloaded the app MyMacros+ to keep track of everything and to keep a balance between the carbs, protein and healthy fats.
I have always disliked weighing myself in the mornings and just didn’t do it but it’s needed in order to stay on track right now for me.
Every morning when I get up right after weighing myself, I drink a bottle of water before doing anything else. I can also track all my water consumption in that app besides all my calorie intake. I have been drinking half a gallon of water or more every day for over a month now and that alone is a big accomplishment for me. I’ve always found it hard to drink a lot because it makes me use the restrooms so much.
After a while, when all your favorite foods and recipes are entered into the app, it becomes a lot easier.
I have continued with yoga and am still loving 30 days of yoga with Adrienne. She is so amazing and it makes me feel very good. I also do short videos on youTube. Previously I have always done about 45 to 50 minutes on my elliptical but that had gotten old and didn’t get me anywhere. I mean who knows how much I would have gained over Christmas had I not done all the cardio. Yikes.
I keep snack foods and some frozen favorites stocked so I can run and eat if I have to.
Here are some of my favorites:
These little gluten free bites (click HERE) are about 50 calories each and the perfect little size to snack on if I’m getting hungry. Coconut Cashew is my favorite flavor and I keep them in my purse.
Cauliflower Risotto (click HERE) is the bomb and the perfect healthy frozen size to take to work with me if I don’t feel preparing a meal anything.
So whatever I eat or drink has to fit into my daily allowed calories and that means I could eat whatever I want to. I just have to calculate it.
I do however eat wisely and chose to eat healthy veggies, protein, fruits and nuts most of the time with the occasional glass of white wine. And sometimes I even have two glasses of white wine. I have stopped drinking beer for now. My favorite is Leffe Blond. That won’t be forever though. I just want to drop a little bit more.
So lets see. It feels so much better to be able to fit into your favorite pants with ease again. It makes me a better person and I’m so glad that I made a change in my life.
It’s not easy but it is doable.
