I have been looking for a project for about two years now where I could use the thick wool balls I had purchased. I didn’t want to knit a chunky blanket that you see everywhere. I was so intrigued with pieces I saw online that incorporated macrame yarn and thick wool. There is something special about the contrasting texture that is somewhat the same but yet totally different. So a simple wool and yarn macrame wreath tutorial sounded like a good place to start.

If you missed my other projects that include the simple knots used in this project then you can see my macrame garland, macrame earrings, macrame feather or wrapped agate stone tutorial on my blog as well.

DIY wool and yarn macrame wreath

You can make this wreath in bigger sizes as well. All you need is a larger brass ring to start with and to add yarn and wool accordingly.

Supplies needed for wool and yarn macrame wreath:

  • 2-inch brass ring
  • macrame yarn (28 strings cut to 22-inch length)
  • thick wool (14 cut 8-inch pieces)
  • comb
  • scissors

Instructions:

Here is the video tutorial:

I started out my wreath by folding the 22-inch pieces of macrame yarn in half and looping them onto the brass ring with Lark’s Head knots as shown below and in the video.

I spend a lot of time on Instagram and while browsing my feed, I have been increasingly getting ads about summer dresses. Many times I have clicked over to the shopping sites only to notice that I was on one of the thousands of cheap Chinese knock-off sites. I don’t know if you remembered when I got sucked into buying from one of them last summer and warned my email subscribers about them and not to buy from them.
Lately, there was an image of one of those dresses that I couldn’t let go because I loved it so much and I just wanted to find who the original designer source was. All those fashion images have been stolen on those sites and are not representing what you are actually going to receive in the mail. It irritates me so much! Especially the fact that they all get away with it while Instagram remains so strict with everything we regular folks post about but since those sites pay for their posts, many eyes are looking the other way and let them.

This week I’m participating in another Summer Home Tour series which is hosted again by my friend Marty of A Stroll Thru Life. Welcome to everyone coming from her blog and also all the other new visitors coming from today’s lineup.

Anita of  Far Above Rubies is before me today and I always enjoy her unique style and story behind her beautiful eclectic home.

I’m going to share our front porch with you again today because I made a recent Craigslist purchased which changed things up a bit out there. I bought a vintage rattan sofa and it was only $50. The reason I was looking for a new piece to place on the porch was that I hated sitting on our wooden bench on the porch. It looked nice but was just so uncomfortable and only fit two people. My legs are also pretty short and didn’t reach the floor which always resulted in my legs falling asleep because they were dangling. Serious problems here, am I right?

On Monday I shared my small yard landscaping ideas with you and in one of my areas we have a spot for a hammock. The old hammock we have has seen better days and I have been increasingly getting more and more obsessed with the thought of getting a macrame fringe hammock. To me, they are a symbol of relaxation, vacation, and summer.

Macrame and Fringe Hammocks

Below you can see the old hammock on our upper patio that I covered up. Another reason I don’t “love” it is because it is heavy to get on and off the stand. Fringe hammocks are a lot softer, lighter and easier to maneuver around.

So let me show you what I found. There are so many good fringe hammocks in all kind of different price ranges and it would be hard to make up your mind.

Small yard landscaping ideas https://cuckoo4design.com/small-yard-landscaping/ https://cuckoo4design.com/small-yard-landscaping/#comments Mon, 03 Jun 2019 09:30:13 +0000 https://cuckoo4design.com/?p=23188 Small yard landscaping ideas

Today I’m participating in a different kind of summer home tour group with a variety of talented bloggers. We are each sharing our home with you this week. It’s a great chance for you to find some new blogs and get some summer ideas for your own home. I’m mainly going to focus on our yard today because it is the space we use the most during spring and summer.

Here it goes…

I know that some of our neighbors didn’t want to purchase the steep-hilled lots on the side that we are located on in our duplex home neighborhood. To me though the hill in our yard presents a beautiful backdrop and it is what we see when we look outside from the back of our house. I had so many different ideas in my head when we moved in and I thought I’d share my small yard landscaping ideas with you today.

Last week I shared our new stock tank pool with you and since you couldn’t really see where the pool is located exactly in our yard, I thought I’d also share some more all over photos where you can see how our small yard is laid out and landscaped.

Disclosure: The Tractor Supply Company provided us with the stock tank and all opinions are as always 100% my own!

This post has been a long time in the making! Like a long long time. I shared with you recently how we planned it but in reality, I have been dreaming of having a water feature in our yard since we moved into our small duplex in 2000. I just didn’t know that stock tank swimming pools existed. Some call them trailer trash pools,  hillbilly spas, redneck retreats or cowboy pools which doesn’t phase me at all.

There is a certain nostalgia seeing that steel tank sitting in a desert scene with some cactuses and cowboy hat and boots next to it. For us, unfortunately, the bare steel didn’t work long term so we had to alter the look and here is why…

Our yard is pretty much all hill. It is a long and narrow yard which slopes right after our paver patio.

Connected outside cat enclosures with an enclosed tree  https://cuckoo4design.com/connected-outside-cat-enclosures-with-an-enclosed-tree/ https://cuckoo4design.com/connected-outside-cat-enclosures-with-an-enclosed-tree/#comments Wed, 22 May 2019 12:32:00 +0000 https://cuckoo4design.com/?p=23029 Connected outside cat enclosures with an enclosed tree

I’m always searching for new outside cat enclosures inspirations that I could add to my own enclosure and frequently watch videos about this subject on YouTube. This is where I came across today’s featured cat enclosure. What intrigued me so much about this catio is that it is made up of several connected outside cat enclosures and features an enclosed tree. I should maybe even describe it more as a wrapped tree because the wire mesh was used in small patches and weaved together throughout the crown of the tree, so the cats can use the large tree for climbing.

When I asked the owners and creators of this combination of outside cat enclosures if I could feature a little glimpse of their set up on my blog, they agreed and I’m happy to share it with you guys because I know a lot of you would love to have an enclosure as well or maybe would like to add some features to their catio.

So here is what they had to say…

Connected outside cat enclosures with an enclosed tree

“Recently we experienced an increase in coyote sightings in our neighborhood. It was heartbreaking seeing multiple lost pet signs and watching our neighbors search for their missing cat or small dog.

It’s time for a Friday Favorites post again. Did you see my last one about my favorite black and white pool accessories? I just received my striped float and love it.

I’m a HUGE Amazon shopper as you guys probably know already. I even have a favorites page (HERE) which you can check out. I’m sharing a lot of the items I buy and love categorized by lists.
I’m blown away lately by the fashion finds and how affordable they are.

Amazon Summer Fashion Favorites for under $25

I bought the short tunic already and earrings but can’t make up my mind which purse to get. They are both so pretty! But I think I’m leaning towards the closed rattan purse since I have a lot of junk in my purses that I don’t want to show off, yah know. I mean who wants to show off tampons LOL.

I also have the sandals in tan and black and they’ve become the only sandals I wear because they are so comfy.

The perfect white and blue chandelier for our daughter’s bedroom https://cuckoo4design.com/perfect-white-and-blue-chandelier/ https://cuckoo4design.com/perfect-white-and-blue-chandelier/#comments Wed, 15 May 2019 09:30:58 +0000 https://cuckoo4design.com/?p=22949 The perfect white and blue chandelier for our daughter’s bedroom

I haven’t posted about our daughter’s dark blue bedroom in a while mainly because nothing had changed and it’s usually a tad bit of a mess. I did mention in a post though that her star-shaped Moravian chandelier had broken when my husband hit his head on it and believe me it’s not a piece you want to hit your head on. So ever since then, we’ve been on the hunt for something new that was affordable and didn’t hurt your head when you bumped into it. Oh, and of course a chandelier that our daughter liked because there were so many that I loved but she didn’t.

When I dropped my dad off at the airport after a wonderful two-week visit (where I ate way too much), I stopped at Ikea because it is right on the way to the Philadelphia airport. That’s when I spotted the perfect white and blue chandelier for her room that didn’t break the bank and was made of fabric which meant it wouldn’t hurt our heads either. I texted my daughter and she agreed that it was awesome. Yay!

Finding pieces that your teenager agrees on isn’t always the easiest task is it?

DIY fine art reproduction oil painting of my great-grandmother https://cuckoo4design.com/diy-fine-art-reproduction-oil-painting/ https://cuckoo4design.com/diy-fine-art-reproduction-oil-painting/#comments Wed, 01 May 2019 13:17:11 +0000 https://cuckoo4design.com/?p=22892 DIY fine art reproduction oil painting of my great-grandmother

This post is in collaboration with pictureframes.com but all opinions are 100% my own.

I’ve been really looking forward to sharing today’s project with you. Do you have paintings in your family that everyone would like to have but of course only one person can have the original? If you do then this post is for you.

Let me explain a little more. My parents have an original oil painting of my great-grandmother from 1913 which I have always loved (see my parents’ home tour by clicking HERE). You can see it below hanging in their home.

It was painted in Berlin by an artist named Höppner. Her name was Margarete (Martha) E. Kaufmann (maiden name Schlieben). There was an original matching painting of my great-grandfather too, who was the director of transportation in Berlin and the one who introduced the doubledecker buses. The painting was unfortunately dumped somewhere by my grandmother’s sister-in-law. She was so angry about that and it makes me angry too.
