    1. I was cracking up when I saw these photos. Isn’t that genius just to shove the bedding under the mattress?!?!

    1. LOL, clowns are not a good thing. Sad, funny or scary 😉

  1. Oh my GOSH. I am dying. Those are SO FUNNY!! And for the record I don’t make my kids make their beds. I like a made bed but there are lots of more important things I need to do every day. So it’s 50-50 whether it gets done. And I’m okay with that 🙂

    1. A ton of more important things. I’m ok with it too

  3. Julia this is awesome! I recently found pictures of my first bedroom I decorated (when I was rounding up my old hair pics) and thought it would be a hoot to share it on the blog! Love this!

    1. You should post them too!

I think your room was super stylish!

  5. Whoa! Went back and read the troll’s comments….some people just don’t have anything better to do. I grew up in a messy house and I’ve had to learn how to be tidier. Between my guy and my business partner, both neat freaks…lol, I’ve gotten much better. Having clutter really weighs you down. It’s so much easier to find things when stuff is in its place. I like making my bed every morning. My whole room feels clean when I make my bed.

    1. No clutter definitely helps. It feels so much better.

  6. Omg, I had a porcelain clown doll growing up! I think my grandma gave it to me. We’re Italian so maybe it’s a European thing (I’m from the US). And I’m 30 so I lived through some of the 80s.

    1. I’m pretty sure it is a European thing too.

  7. You were definitely more stylish that me! ha. Oh and I stopped by and read that comment thread from Monday – keep your chin up! Nothing to it. I for one, Loved seeing you post the post on Monday.

    1. Thanks Ashley. It was weird

  8. Oh my goodness, at least we all went through the 80’s together so we really cant pass judgment on those questionable things that were deemed stylish back then. And it is very nice to see glimpses of your real life in your real house. It can feel discouraging to us readers who aren’t professional bloggers seeing these tidy, spot free homes so it is reassuring to be reminded that those photos are likely staged. , I know that lots of clutter can make me feel tense and on edge, but having a little bit of untidiness reminds me that I am raising two girls in my house who have school and activities and fun. Like your readers have siad, its the memories that you create as a family that are going to be fondly remembered, not that you were yelling at them all the time to clean their rooms, pick up after themselves, etc. Lastly, I would just add, My mom keep a pretty spottless house when I was growing up, to the point that she would tidy up after my friends would spend the night, set their stuff by the door and you know what, it made my friends feel like she didnt like them. Truth was she was in a bad marriage and this was one way for her to dealcwithcthat, but it was misread by my friends.

    1. That doesn’t sound good for your friends. Being very strict certainly sometimes has something to do with control. I used to be a lot more uptight about it but learned to let go. It just stresses me out. And I look at keeping my house mostly cleaned and organized as my job. There is a comment on my Facebook page from one of my neighbors which proofs my house usually does look like it does in the blog photos at least when you walk into our house. Of course there are a lot of days where it looks just the way it does in the messy tour which is mostly upstairs. It has become my job which is kind of a win-win of me 😉

    1. Monchicis crack me up. My son hates it when I say you have Monchichi hair and need a hair cut 😉 I recently thought about buying my daughter one

  9. I’m an American living in Austria, and we have one of those beds in our guest room. It’s great for storing extra blankets and pillows, epecially since we don’t have big walk-in closets with tons of storage space like so many American homes do. So fun to see the pictures of your childhood bedroom!

    1. Yeah they are great! I just had a flashback memory about how we also used to play vampire in that bed. It doubles as a vampire coffin LOL.

  10. That’s a pretty rockin’ room! I had a sunflower print all over mine. Lol

    1. Sunflowers are awesome!

Julia, I love your childhood pictures! You can see your eye for design from a very early age. You were a beautiful little girl that has grown into a beautiful woman! I just love all your stuffed animals – you started loving them at a very early age – a very good sign of a caring and loving heart. I think your room was so neat and I know if I was a friend of yours back then I would have thought the same thing! I loved seeing these pictures so much!

    1. That would have been a fun blog series to have! I would love to see other blogger’s childhood rooms.

  12. Omg your room back in the day was soooo stylish for a kid your age. My room had Sean Cassidy and Olivia Newton John posters tacked to the wall and was overrun with those cheap smelly stuffed animals you would win at carnivals..you seemed kinda cool..????

    1. Before the sad clown I actually had an Elvis poster in that frame LOL. I had the biggest crush on him. So odd! Oh and of the 80s band “A-ha”. Great combo!

  13. Oh really? So it’s not a European thing to have that sad clown?
