  1. not cringing at all- feeling more normal! and i love those pillow cases!

    1. I don’t even know where to start on that side of the room 😉

  2. Wishing you a very Happy Birthday!! You know, it was difficult for me to think of turning 50. A life threatening event happened and thank God, I survived! I decided then to welcome each year…some do not have that opportunity. I also feel that you relax more with each decade, “things” become less important and family and friends more important. 🙂

Good luck with the man cave! No cringing…you are being “real”.

    1. Oh no a life threatening event certainly puts things in perspective. I do thank God every day for what I have though that’s not really what I meant. It’s just an adjustment getting older. I do find that I’m exactly the opposite though. I’m not at all more relaxed. I just to be a carefree person when I was in my twenties and the older I get the more stressed out and anxious I am. It’s actually awful. I worry so much about all kinds of things. Like my parents in Germany and that I’m so far away, my kids and so many other things. And that’s why I feel getting older is hard. I have to take care of other people which I didn’t have to do when I was young.
      Have a great weekend Pat.

  3. Wishing you a very Happy Birthday! The ‘other side’ of your basement is not so bad. Wave you magic at it!

    1. Haha Sueli, thanks. I wish I’d have a magic wand. Just looking at that side makes me tired and I have to gather some funds before tackeling it.

  4. Bahaha, Love the apple remote leash. We SOOO need that. Also, I’m totally loving the real look at the mess in the basement. Happy Birthday, my friend.

    1. Thanks I’m going to get a massage tomorrow and can’t wait.

I love all your gift ideas. And oh my gosh your family room is perfect. Shows a happy, active family!

Happy, Happy Birthday!..! If I did not know about the kids (getting so grown upish) I would guess you to be turning 21.

    1. LOL 21! I so wish! Thank you Sheryll

  6. Aw, happy birthday Julia! I hope it’s a wonderful day for you! I’m with you on Valentine’s Day – we just don’t really celebrate it and I’d rather have the occasional surprise/treat just because throughout the year 🙂

    1. thanks Brynne, it was a great birthday with the best massage ever. I’m glad I’m not alone in hating Vday 😉

  7. First off, Happy Birthday you gorgeous thing you. You don’t look 41 AT ALL, no worrying about covering yourself up with ski gear 😉 Also, I totally get where you are coming from. When I turned 40, everyone wanted me to have a huge bash and the last thing I felt like doing was celebrating so we booked a tiny cabin in the middle of nowhere with 4 of my closest friends and escaped 😉 I will say, it gets a bit easier with each passing year. I’m no longer really depressed as I was at 40 so ya know, it gets better, honestly. Also, I don’t do V-day either – can’t bear it! lol And lastly, the man cave – all I can think is OH MY GOD TO HAVE THAT KIND OF SPACE. So mess and all I’m still jealous! Ha! xxx

    1. Thanks 😉 Getting away along instead of a big bash sounds amazing! But I had a wonderful massage with girlfriends, then drinks and some good food which was really great too.
It is pretty awesome to have a basement space for us all, I do agree!

  8. Your post made me laugh- at least you HAVE a basement! lol

    1. Oh I’m totally not complaining about having a basement. We do love it and I’m glad I could make you laugh!

  9. Happy birthday!! I’m not into Valentines day, either….which is just as well; I’m sure if I expected Dave to be good at celebrating it, I’d be very disappointed….so it’s good we’re on the same page 😉

    1. I know, it’s good that I don’t expect anything because I think I would set him up for failure LOL

  10. Happy Birthday Julia!! You share the same birthday as my son! The 40’s are fabulous, right?! I’m right there with you!;)

    1. Aquarians unite. My mom’s birthday is tomorrow. I was her early birthday present 41 years ago. And I’m still learning to love the 40s Shauna 😉 Thanks for the birthday wishes my friend.

    1. I need several of those leashes. Those tiny things are grounds for lots of fights when they are missing 😉
