Living Pretty With Your Pets: Home Stories A to Z
I’m so so happy to have Beth from Home Stories A to Z and her adorable puppies visiting my little blog today. I’m sure I don’t have to tell any of you other bloggers out there who she is am I right? But for those of you who don’t blog and don’t attend Haven, she is one of the fabulous ladies behind Haven conference and you can read more HERE. I didn’t really get to talk to Beth at Haven but we had the chance to shake up the dance floor together. And Beth has ridiculous skills, let me tell you I don’t think anyone can shake it like her. It’s crowd gathering material.
Hi everyone! I’m excited to be here today to share with you a bit about myself and my “therapy dogs” as I like to call them. My pomeranians are the best treatment I’ve found to cure my annual winter blues–and anytime blues for that matter! The end of February is typically a difficult time for me. February 28th will mark the fifth anniversary of my dad’s death. He was an amazing man and even though it’s been five years since he died, I still can’t believe he is permanently gone. I miss him terribly, and I just miss him a bit extra this time of year. Therefore, every February without fail, I begin to have pomeranian puppy cravings! Both of our pomeranian pups were purchased around this time of year. My husband sent me the following cartoon and said, “Honey, I love you, but we can’t buy a puppy every February.” I assured him that as long as no one else dies in my life, I should be good with two pups; however, if I experience another big loss all bets are off!
My pomeranians are named Pippin (the reddish brown and white one) and Eowyn (the blonde one). Pippin is called a Beaver pom because he has light eyes and a light-colored nose. Eowyn might actually be part long-haired chihuahua. We’ve always been a bit suspect of her pedigree. Whatever their lineage, they are nothing short of adorable!
Here is what each looked like as puppies. I think you can see why I find pomeranians completely irresistible! Word to the wise, don’t go to a breeder or shelter to “visit” a pomeranian puppy unless you intend on coming home with one. 😉
If you follow me on Instagram, you will often see candid pictures of Pippin and Eowyn.
But unfortunately, my dogs do not make it onto my blog as much as I would like. They both HATE getting their picture taken, and I have to be super stealthy with my camera in order to catch a good one. If they are doing something cute, I’ll try and move in with my phone in the most nonchalant manner and 9 times out of 10 they spot me and stop being cute! And you can pretty much forget trying to capture them with a DSLR.
Pippin is slightly more cooperative than Eowyn and will at least stay when commanded to do so. I really wanted the dogs to be part of my Christmas home tour this year but trying to get both of them to cooperate was a herculean feat! Hats off to pet photographers out there because it is not easy.
Sometimes I do get lucky and am able to capture their sweet and sassy personalities!
If you’re unfamiliar with the breed, poms are lively, smart, playful, and silly. They are good with kind children (notice the kind) and they demand a lot of affection and attention. They are indoor dogs and they like to be with their family as much as humanly possible. If we allowed it, our pomeranians would eat at the dinner table, sleep in our beds, follow us into the bathroom, and run every errand with us. They are a bit clingy and since I work from home they do drive me a bit crazy some days!
But mostly, they just crack me up and entertain our entire family with their antics. If I try to do yoga or any sort of floor-work exercise at home, this is usually what happens. Or better yet, they attack me with all sorts of puppy kisses! Blech! Although I have to admit that puppy kisses are the best form of daily therapy that I can imagine. I feel so blessed to have these two furry creatures in our lives and appreciate all they teach me about unconditional love and the silver lining to every difficult day.
Since this series is entitled “Living Pretty with Your Pets” I’ll leave you with the following image. Two (furry) guesses as to who shredded up my dried hydrangeas. Sigh. It might not always be living pretty but living with pets is definitely a life worth living!
Thanks so much Julia for allowing me to share my pups with your readers today! I hope you all will stop by and visit me sometime on my blog, Home Stories A to Z where I share my love for decorating, home decor, and DIY projects.

I’m so sorry for Beth’s loss of her father and glad that her little cuties give her comfort. I know that pets are so good at helping us through hard times.
Aren’t they just so adorable? And Beth’s home is so pretty too. I love the mix of old and new and lots of white.
I just adore these greek key roman shades Beth made.

Such a cute pup family and gorgeous house of course!
Thank you so much!
Look at those adorable faces! Such a cute duo. Daisy didn’t like to have her picture taken either, but now she’s totally fine with it and her personality totally shows. Thank you for sharing your adorable furry family!
Hmmmm. Maybe I need to just be more persistent. I’d love it if they didn’t jump up or move every time I tried to come at them with a camera. 🙂
Beth, I am so very sorry for your loss of your Dad. Your home, you and your pets are all so gorgeous, and I happen to think that you are an amazing pet photographer! That bed cartoon looks like our house, and really made me laugh. We have four rescue cats and a rescue dog. I too suffer from seasonal depression and they rescue me!
Thank you Carolyn! Fur babies certainly are the best medicine for winter blues.
I have known and loved a couple Poms myself…… and yours are so beautiful. I especially love the pic of them (the Christmas photo) on the sofa. And you have white…. with that I can just say I am seriously amazed. Nothing in my house stays even close to clean…….. but oh well. I tell friends to expect a mess and if they can’t deal with it, then again oh well.
Beautiful house too.
Oh, I wanted to ask how you pronounce Eowyn (can’t see what I am typing). I am thinking just the way it seems…… e-oh- win??
Thanks! The white couch was actually a white slip-cover and saw a lot of bleach in its day. 🙂 Seriously that’s the only way to have white in a home with two little boys and two little Poms! Eowyn and Pippin are character names from the Lord of the Rings. (My family is sort of obsessed with The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings.) It is pronounced Eh-oh-win. Thanks so much for commenting!
I knew you would love them
ooh i think i need to make those greek shades! love them! and those pups are adorable!
Thanks Cassie! All you need are roller shades and some gold duck tape. Easy peasy. Thanks for reading about my pups!
Cuties! My mom has a pom that was supposedly already 13 when she adopted her several years ago…..she’s still healthy and cute and FEISTY! (I seem to know at least one of every kind of dog anyone posts about here; I, uhh…know a lot of dogs :))
Ha! Feisty is definitely a good term for a pom. They have a lot of spunk for being such a little dog. 🙂 Thanks for reading about mine!
They re so cute!! I could never visit a shelter without taking one home!
I know right? It’s impossible.
Thank you Kristin!
