My first chalk paint dresser
Hi friends, I’ve actually been able to get some work done while my dad is cooking up a storm. I need to go on a diet when he is gone. Seriously!
So one of the things I got accomplished was that I ventured into (for me) unknown territory. With all the furniture makeovers that I have done already, I have never painted with chalk or milk paint until last week. Are you asking why? Well the reason is mostly that I tend to gravitate to non-distressed furniture.
But for this makeover there was just no other way. To me this dresser was screaming: “paint me in chalk paint and distress me.”

And I don’t think without Cassie’s (Primitive & Proper) guidance, I would have ever ventured down this road. I see her fabulous chalk paint makeovers every week and just wanted to try it. After asking her what paint she used, I decided to go with CeCe Caldwell’s Destin Gulf Green chalk paint. I just loved that color of green.
After two coats of paint I waxed the dresser with Clear Liberon Black Bison Fine Paste Wax.
Check it out. I really, really like it! And hey, maybe I should name her “Cassie”!

Did you recognize the hobby lobby knobs that I bought a while ago? They are the reason why I picked that green. I also added a gold Rub ‘n Buff detail to the top scrolls.
I think that I will paint more chalk paint now because it’s so easy to work with.

That is an old and probably very valuable dresser, however like me, since you were not in to preserving its value, the paint is stunning on this piece.
I totally agree. I waited for several years before actually deciding to paint it. I really didn’t want to paint it. I was trying to sell it the way it was because (like you) I think this piece has value. But nobody wanted it and I have no room for it. There is just a higher demand for painted furniture 😉
That’s why I decided to paint it.

I think it is just beautiful. I am (hope no one sends me hate mail) not into distressed at all.. maybe because I am, well never mind that. ha ha
I also adore that color and after thinking I no longer wanted shiny gold in my house, I am loving these gold accents you applied. Those knobs are the bees knees too!
I am saving stuff from off the street (chair, small end table, etc) to wood glue back together and sand and paint. I too am very much wanting to try chalk painting. Also have some old, small tables, like a telephone desk, another very small half table & a tall, round layered shelf one that I inherited from my parents & two end tables that were fairly new before they passed that I just don’t like that I want to paint. Not expensive like this you did, but very old, in fact they were second hand to my parents. And I did not see any laws on must distress if chalk painting…. yes I guess I am a rebel?

Hi: I found you over on Hometalk! This is gorgeous… I too painted a dresser with Annie Sloan chalk paint and was SO happy with the result. How easy is that! Amazing. It is certainly my paint of choice now! I’ll go over and follow you right now…
I’m curious… I bought some of this paint, and it looks so much darker than your dresser… did you cut the paint at all with white? Also… did you use 2 coats of green, or did you do one white and then a coat of green?

Hmmmm I’m not sure why yours looks darker. I didn’t do anything to my paint.
